Raito Yagami, age 7, is very satisfied with the drawings he just finished.

For his birthday he receives, among others, a packet of crayons, and doesn't hesitate to use them: his room is soon covered in sheets of paper, mainly scattered over the floor and his desk. His parents are very proud of having such a creative son: it just further proves he has many talents that he'll probably make use of in the future.

Of course, they also don't hesitate to look at what he has drawn: and the subject turns out to be rather surprising.

The most remarkable drawing shows their son as a ruler (as the object on his head, probably meant to resemble a crown, would suggest), towering above something which are probably supposed to be adoring crowds. In another one, he is holding golden scales dressed in odd-looking robes - most likely the influence of another of his presents, a slightly simplified version of Greek myths. They are delighted with the fact that a boy of his age actually took in such a book: but would they expect less from their son?

That, obviously, doesn't change the fact that the theme of his doodles is rather... perplexing for his parents.

When asked what his drawings are supposed to mean, Raito replies with childish confidence that, after all, there always needs to be someone who will watch over people. Who else will make sure that they behave well and lawfully?

His parents feel relief: they are proud to have a son with such a strong sense of morals.

Raito Yagami, age 19, makes some perfectly understandable precautions.

He proposes his parents that he'll get rid of the fallen leaves scattered all over the garden: after all, autumn is close to its end, so it needs to be done as soon as possible. They are pleasantly surprised: the youth nowadays often doesn't even move an inch to help the rest of the family with household chores. They are proud to have such a helpful and concerned son.

While heaping on the stack of leaves to be burned, he buries a paper folder with his old drawings in the middle, hiding it carefully.

He merely takes into account the fact that some amateur psychologist on the investigation team might accidentally show his childhood ambitions in an unnecessarily suspicious light.

-the end

Author's notes: It is, actually, my first time writing a Death Note fic: and as in this fandom, I don't have too much of an urge to write any pairings, I decided to use this little weird idea that came to me once Min gave me the prompt. That's why I'd be grateful for any feedback :3 And I am not too satisfied with the outcome, sadly, but at least it's decent. I hope so, at least.

Based on the prompt that Min gave me - namely, crayons. I wasn't too creative with the title, sadly.
