take place in Beacon Hills.

"Kate. Where are you?"

"Right here dad." Kate sighed, "What do you need?"

"So you know we're trying to rid the world of werewolves." Gerard started.

"I know you and Chris are."

Gerard ignored her, "This mission is for you. I need you to seduce a werewolf."

"Of course. What age?"

"Young would be good."

"Still in high school."

"That works."

"Ok I'll go to the high school then." Kate walked out of Gerard's office and her brother saw her.

"You Know Kate you don't have to do what he says."

"Maybe you don't, Chris, but I do. You've made sure no harm came to me and I appreciate that very much but I think I have to do this myself." Kate sighed and walked out of his way, got into her car and drove towards the high school. She hadn't been back since she graduated a few years ago. Armed with the knowledge that she'd been told since she was young about how to spot a werewolf she got out and started walking towards the school. A young man came out keeping to himself and Kate knew she'd found her target, "Hey, are you ok?"

"Who are you?" The boy asked.

"Oh I was checking out the ol school. I haven't been here since I stopped coming here and I saw you and wanted to know if you needed help." Kate told him.

"Where do you go to school now?" He asked, curiosity piqued.

"My dad won't let me go to school. He says I should come and join the family business but he doesn't really let me do anything. So I really am not doing a lot."

"Oh. That's too bad. What's his deal?"

"I don't know. I think maybe he wishes I was a son instead of a daughter."

"Oh. My family treats my sister right. I'm sorry about your dad."

"Yeah."

"I'm not doing much of anything either want to hang out?" He offered.

"I'd like that."

"I know this great place a few blocks away. We can walk. I'm Derek."

"Kate."

The third time they hung out they had a picnic under the stars and they lay together with the fire glinting as they looked up at the sky. Kate sighed happily and Derek strokes her silky smooth blonde hair.

"Where'd you learn to be so gentle with hair?"

"I have two sisters. Cora and Laura. Laura is older than me but Cora is about 6 years younger than me so she's 11. Sometimes my mom is too busy with family affairs to help Cora with her hair and Laura is older so she's not that close to Cora, so I do Cora's hair."

"Oh that's nice of you. You're really sweet."

"Thanks. I like hanging with you." He told her.

"I do..." She was stopped by her name being called. She sat up abruptly. "That's my dad."

"Go Derek I don't want him to see you."

"I can help."

"No Derek please."

"Ok." Derek gave in and he jogged away. Kate stood up as Gerard appeared. "Kate. What do you know?"

"Not much of anything yet. He told me he did his sisters' hair."

"That's all you got?"

"We've hung out 3 times! Give me a break!"

"You know what young woman..."

"Dad that's enough." Chris said from behind Gerard, "you shouldn't be too hasty."

"Fine. Two weeks and then you come back." Gerard compromised.

"Ok two weeks."

They left and Kate ran in the direction Derek did until she came to this house in the woods. She stopped short and wondered at it.

"Kate. Are you ok?" Derek asked.

"Yeah I guess. He's just an old battle axe." Kate sighed. Derek took her in for a hug. It was surprising how close they'd gotten after only hanging out three times. He smelled good, like the forest. Kate looked at him and gently pecked him on the lips. Derek smiled a soft smile.

Two weeks went by and Derek and Kate's bond had only grown stronger, Derek said he hadn't felt this strongly about a person since his first love when he was 15 and he opened up about that. Kate knee pretty much everything about him. She dreaded the time when she'd have to tell her father everything. Then it dawned on her what if she didn't have to? She could drop of Gerard's radar by ditching her phone. She tossed it in a trash can outside of the high school before she went on her date. It felt good to do something for herself for once. Derek and Kate got to a clearing in the woods and Kate sat him down. "So I haven't been entirely honest with you. My dad is the one hunting werewolves and before you get mad, I've never hunted one my whole life. You know how I feel about my dad, this is why. I'm never good enough for him and yes he wishes I was a boy so I could help him with his hunting. Ever since my mom died I've been on my own, my brother protected me mostly but I've never felt totally safe until I started hanging out with you. I'm sorry I didn't tell you."

"Derek sighed, "It's ok Kate. Have you told your dad anything about me?"

"Absolutely nothing."

"Ok. Well where are you going to sleep?"

"I have a place my dad doesn't know about. It's sort of a treehouse, my mom had it built for me before she died if I ever needed to escape my dad. Don't worry about me, it's high tech."

"Ok sounds good."

They parted ways and for a few days everything was ok.

But on the other end everything was not ok. Gerard has thrown himself into a rage. He had said two weeks which he thought was generous but it had been two weeks and 3 days. He stomped into his office and yelled, "Chris! Where's the phone tracker!"

Chris walked in, "should be there he nodded.

"Ah here it is."

"Do we need to track her right now? It's midnight."

"No you're right. Then we can confront her."

The next day after Derek got off they ran Kate's secret spot to plot out a strategy for avoiding her dad or at least, she said, until Derek could get away.

Gerard and Chris had arrived at the set location.

"She should be right around here." Gerard said. "I don't understand."

Chris went to the closest trash can and said, "Would it make more sense if I showed you this?"

Gerard turned to him and saw Kate's phone in his hand. "This means war." He declared, "Ok I have an idea. You probably won't like it so you don't have to participate."

"I'll go home and take inventory."

"That's a good idea." Gerard agreed.

A few hours later from where Kate and Derek. Derek perked up alarmingly fast.

"What's wrong?"

"I think something bad is happening. Let's go to my house."

"But your mom..."

"It's ok."

So they ran all the way to Derek's house and saw it completely ablaze. Derek just stood there looking at it in shocked disbelief. There were screams and people trying to get out but they couldn't because of the mountain ash. Derek the started to sob and Kate held him and petted his head. Then they heard something so they ran away Derek still sobbing.

Gerard came into the clearing and looked smug and nodded. His daughter as far as he knew was now on the run. He started to run towards where they headed. They ran through brush and around trees and then Kate stopped abruptly.

"Chris... what're you doing with that crossbow?" She asked shielding Derek.

"Gonna shoot that one." Chris nodded towards Derek. Kate straightened and said, "Then I guess you'll have to shoot him through me."

The crossbow was lowered, "What's the deal?"

"Have you ever felt completely safe after you thought you'd never feel that again? That's how I feel when I'm with him. It's like how I felt when mom would hug me and he's kind and strong. So, if you're gonna shoot him go through me."

"Kate you know I can't shoot you."

"I know. But the question is can you help us escape the evil clutches of dad."

Chris took Kate by the shoulder and whispered, "Beacon hills. It's a town for supernaturals. No one knows about this except I visited there once. Find a way to get there and you could escape dad."

"Thank you Chris thank you so much."

Kate went over to Derek, "Hey. I know places we won't be found and they'll be chasing their tails trying to track us down cause I know places we can hide."

Derek sniffed, "It's ok. My family is dead I should be too."

"Hey! Stay with me!" Kate said and when that didn't work she kissed him. "Come in Derek we can do this."

He nodded and they ran towards where the bus station was. They made it and got on the bus sat down and Derek passed out on Kate's shoulder, a welcome rest from crying. Kate strokes his hair and looked out the window as the sun set and the bus started to move. Away from her home, away from everything she ever knew but most importantly away from Gerard.
