BEEEEEEP! BEEEEEEP! BEEEEEEP!

The blaring sound of my alarm rings in my ears. I yawn and push myself out of bed. I sit on the edge of my bed and stare at a picture sitting on top of my nightstand. It's an old picture of my brother and my dad. My eyes almost water, but I force the tears down and begin getting ready for school.

"Katie! Are you up? Can't be late on your first day at a new school!" My mom yells from downstairs.

"Yeah mom. And remember, I want you to call me Pidge from now on," I reply with a sigh. I hear her sigh as well, in a mocking fashion, and I just roll my eyes. I slip on a pair of baggy jean shorts and an orange t-shirt. I move over to the mirror and smile. My ginger hair i9s cut short, up to around my ears, similar to my brother's. I decided a few weeks ago to get it cut before the school year starts so I could start over at my new school.

I pick up my backpack and begin to examine its contents. My tools, my laptop, and my notebooks. I'm all set! I check the clock, and it's only six o'clock, and my bus doesn't arrive until seven.

I grin, grab my tools, and sprint downstairs. I run through the kitchen, grabbing a banana on my way through, and head into the garage.

The garage is filled with tools, motherboards, wheels, wires, and every kind of metal imaginable. My dad used to use the garage as a workshop, but when we moved, he let me use it instead. My dad had found an entire building he could use instead, filled with everything he'd need. So, he gave the garage to me, along with all his old materials.

In the corner of the garage is what I've been working on, and what I'm finally going to finish. It's a small-ish, rectangular prism shaped robot. It has what kind of looks like in eye in the center of one side, but is actually it's actually a camera. It has sensors installed so it can sense heat and light! I'm really proud of him.

Sadly, technology isn't advanced enough for him to be able to fly, so he's on wheels for now. I decided to name him Rover.

I begin pulling out tools, getting everything I need from my case. I adjust my glasses and begin finishing what's left of the robot.

. . .

I put my tools back in my case and smile at Rover. I turn him on and he beeps at me. I grab me case and pick up Rover, so it isn't a mess when he tries to go up the stairs. I run through the kitchen and up the stairs. I put my tools back in my backpack, put on my green sweatshirt, and sling my backpack over my arm. I look at the time, 7:01. Oh fe- WAIT 7:01?!

I hold Rover tightly in my arm and sprint out the door. I go outside just as the bus pulls up.

I quickly get on the bus and let out a sigh of relief as I sit down in my seat, and I hold Rover next to me, smiling. I scoot over towards the window in my empty seat and check all of Rover's programming. By the time we get to the final stop, I finish, and a tall guy sits next to me. He has short black hair, except for the top, where it's long and silver. He also has on a football jersey. Great, I'll be sitting with a jock on the bus for the rest of the year.

"Hey!" He says, smiling at me. He extends a hand, and I shake it, grinning. "Nice robot by the way!" He adds on.

"Thanks, I made it myself," I reply.

"That's awesome, I could never do that," He exclaims in awe.

"Yeah, it took a while. Oh, I forgot, my name's Ka- I mean Pidge," I say, trying to keep in a laugh due to his expression.

"Nice to meet you Pidge, my names Shiro."
