Never Crossed Her Mind
In the sitting room, Petunia Dursley, stood as she folded laundry. Distractedly, she watched the morning news; within the last week nothing horrible had been reported. Petunia knew that even though nothing had happened in the muggle world, horrid things were indeed happening. Vernon would surely have a fit if he knew about the guards that the Order had given them, but she planned for him to never know. Not for the hundredth time, she wish that she could defend their family. Even after all of this time, she desired to be magical.
A knock on the door brought Petunia from her melancholy thoughts. She waited a full minute before she opened the door. She swallowed as she realized who was on her doorstep.
Harry Potter looked around the sitting room; a room that held several bad memories for him. He firmly stated, "It's over."
"What is over?"
"The war." He said as he pushed his hands in the pockets of his pants. "I killed the man who killed my parents."
"Harry sit down. Let me make some tea. I figure we have a lot to talk about."
Harry sat down on the sofa. He hoped Vernon wasn't home. After several minutes had passed, Petunia came into the sitting room. She placed the tea set and platter of biscuits unto the coffee table. With shaky hands, Petunia poured them both a cup of tea. They sat quietly for several minutes while the other waited for the other to speak.
"I do not know where to start." Petunia struggled to start the conversation. The silence was torture. "What to say."
"I don't, either. I do have a few questions to ask."
"Ask."
"How come you could never say no to Dumbledore?"
"No never truly crossed my mind, Harry." Petunia sighed. "I'm sorry for the way in which Vernon and I raised you."
"In hindsight," Harry said as he smiled sadly. "Vernon did the truly horrid things that happened here."
"I should've treated you better. You are Lily's son. Although, I was extremely jealous of her, I loved her."
"Yes, you should have, but I forgive you, because of my Mum. She loved you."
