Letting Go
She takes all the photos off the walls. The ones of her and Clark. Her and Jimmy, Her and Lois. She even takes the one she kept locked in the bottom drawer of her and Davis. She takes the old articles she wrote when she was still a reporter. She still has the ones from her days as editor of the Torch. Clark makes fun of her sometimes but those were happy days, at least the days she wasn't being chased by monsters or Luthors.
She takes all the evidence she collected and kept against the Luthors that is technically useless now that both of the Luthors are good and dead. She's still not sure why she kept it but she learned to be paranoid during all her years of dealing with the Luthor men.
She's had a lot of years to get ready for this day. She knew it was coming. She knew it would one day come.
She erases the wmv file of her and Clark at one of his birthday parties. She smiles when she sees his father and wonders briefly if she should give Clark the file but deletes it anyway. He probably already has it.
She sits at her computer and watches another video and thinks about all the things she wanted to do with her life. All the things she never did. All the secrets she kept. All the hurt. All the pain. All the deceit. And not all of it was Clark's fault.
She didn't blame Clark. She never blamed Clark. It wasn't his fault that he didn't love her. She had spent a long time holding on to him trying to make him love her but now it was time to let go. It was finally time.
Clark was in love.
Clark had always been in loveā¦..
Always to someone who was not her.
She had spent all her life getting ready for this moment.
It wasn't easy though.
Chloe gets up from her seat leaving the video playing on her computer and the photos on the table. They aren't coming with her. She's leaving town and she isn't taking them with her not if she wants to really let go.
Clark has his own life now with Lois and Chloe wantshim to be happy. She has always wanted him to be happy. He has his destiny. He has made his choice.
And Chloe was making hers.
She was letting go.
