If you see him, tell him I wish him well
How am I doing?
Well some times it hard to tell
I still miss him more than ever
But please don't say a word
If you see him, oh if you see him
If you see her, tell her I'm doing fine
And if you want to, say that I think of her from time to time
Ask her if she ever wonders where we both went wrong
If you see her, oh if you see her
Oh I still want her
And I still need him so
I don't know why we let each other go
If you see her, tell her the light's still on for her
Nothing's changed, deep down the fire still burns for him
And even if it takes forever, say I'll still be here
If you see him, if you see her
"How's Lucas?" Brooke asks as she eyes me over her drink. I sigh a little, wondering how many drinks she's had tonight. She only ever asks about my brother after she's had one too many.
"He's good." I smile a little and she nods.
"I'm glad." She says after a moment, swaying slightly in her chair. "You tell him I said hello."
"Brooke, are you OK?" I ask, leaning forward to place a hand on her arm.
"I don't know Nate…" She shrugs a little. "It's kind of hard to tell sometimes." She's quiet for a long moment and I know what's coming. "I miss him…" She drops her head, looking almost ashamed that my brother still has that kind of affect on her. "But you can't tell him, Nate. You have to promise me you won't tell him."
"I promise Brooke." I squeeze her hand gently and think about the night before I left Tree Hill.
"So, I hear you're going to New York…." Lucas says as soon I take a seat next to him at the bar.
"Yup… tomorrow…" I glance at the empty shot glances in front of my brother and wonder how long he's been here.
"You going to see Brooke?" He looks over at me and I nod.
"Probably…" I say slowly. "I'm looking forward to it. We haven't seen her in such a long time."
"Yeah…" Lucas' words slur a little and he sighs heavily. "I miss her, Nate. I want her to come home to me. Can you tell her that? Can you tell her that I'll wait forever if I have to…."
"Come on, Man, let's get you home." I throw his arm over my shoulder and help him to the car. As he collapses in the front seat on my SUV he looks over at me.
"Nate…" I pause to look at him. "The stuff I said tonight… don't say anything to Brooke. It'll just upset her… I don't want to upset her."
"Sure Luke."
"Nate…" The sound of Brooke's voice pulls me back to reality and I look at my friend. "I don't feel so good. Can you take me home?"
"Of course, Brooke." I smile and lift her easily into your arms. She rests her head on my shoulder as I carry her to the car and gently place her in the passenger seat. As I fasten the seatbelt around her, she looks up at me groggily.
"He doesn't miss me anymore, does he Nate?" She mumbles drunkenly. "I wish he missed me." Her words are barely audible before she passes out. I sigh and gently brush the hair from her face.
"He misses you Brooke." I whisper and place a chaste kiss on her forehead. "He misses you."
The End.
