The air was chilly, brisk and cutting in its slight breeze against her semi-exposed skin. Raven watched for the sun, eager for it's glowing warmth. It was almost sunrise, and already the clouds were beginning to reflect beautiful colors. She waited patiently as the beauty of a new morning calmed her in a way meditation couldn't; In meditation she was whole as a person, but when the sun graciously lent it's rays to her, she felt right with the entire world.
When the sun finally stretched lazily from behind the clouds, Raven sighed. In this moment of absolute calm where even the birds slept and the wind held its breath, Raven felt happy. That is, until a little green mouse scampered across her foot.
Raven sighed again, this time in aggravation. It couldn't last could it?
She ignored him and assumed her meditative position, eyes closed and legs crossed, with the tail of her cape gently scraping the ground as she levitated midair. She focused on the sun and its warmth while she meditated the epitome of calm. It wasn't long until she felt a small ball of fur in her lap, making her dip lower until her powers compensated for the extra weight. Raven cracked one eye open, momentarily distracted and annoyed as she glared at the small green kitten curled up in her lap. It was purring very quietly, as if unconsciously in its sleep, and seemed to also be enjoying the sun's lovely rays.
Rather than ruin the peace and quiet with an argument, she decided to let him be. Any chance to meditate was absolutely crucial to keeping in control of her chaotic powers.
To be honest, it wasn't really fair how she was the only one to work so hard and still be the least knowledgeable about her powers. She'd read too many books, sifted through spell after spell, denied herself every emotion, and still had not mastered her own skills yet.
She thought of Starfire, the other titan whos powers were reliant on emotions. It wasn't right to compare between herself and Star, but... It wasn't fair. Starfire's over-the-top emotions stimulated her powers, but Raven's were ruined by even the smallest display of anger or happiness.
Suddenly, Raven realized her hands were curled into fists. Mortified, she unclenched them and gazed into the palms as if she could devine their intent, and read the destiny written upon them. She noticed the purring in her lap had stopped; and a pair of green eyes peered curiously at her. She sighed and petted the small bundle of fur until it curled up again in a tighter coil than before, happy to be loved.
She closed her eyes and petted the green cat to sleep, at peace with the world once again. A small smile tugged at her lips as she realized the sun was closer than ever before.
