The soldiers around me moved in slow motion. Bullets wized by my face, inches from their target. My rifle clicked, out of ammo I reached for my pistol. My ears somehow tuned out the sound, everything moving in absolute chaos. The beautiful chaos of war, the adrenaline, something about battle made me feel alive. I doged more bullets, firing a shot in the face of an enemy. The spattered blood glistened upon the ground, sending another quiver of adrenaline coursing through my veins. That's when I saw him. Italy. Damn. Why could he not obey orders. He ran through the melee, firing off rounds never actually aiming for anyone. I waved him back, but he ignored me. I growled low to myself and injured another. Turning to handle this little dilemma of mine...it happened. The night mare..the lowest circle of hell was upon me. His eyes widened, in shock and pain, he crumpled to his knees as blood began to soak his shirt.
"NEEEIIN!" Sound was regained in a deafening roar. Gun fire, screams of agony, orders everything came as an onslaught as I ran. I don't care, he wouldn't die on me. Not now. Not ever. I was at his side in an instant. How much time had passed? A few seconds? It seemed like hours. Sound began to fade again as I pulled him close. Was my imagination taking over...Nein they were stopping. It was over.
"F-feliciano?" I choked a bit as I gently shifted him onto my knees.
"Ludwig. Y-you're ok." He smiled weakly and winced at the pain caused from this small effort.
"Don't talk...I..I" what could I say? So much blood already. I needed to stop it, and he'd be ok. I ripped of my coat ripping pieces from where ever my hands were in an attempt to stop it. A hand was placed on mine.
"It's ok...we all die...eventually."
"Stop! You vill not die...I just have to...I just...you can't leave me" the last part was a whisper, a plea. Something warm slid down my cheek I touched it questionably. Water...no...tears. I was crying.
"I love..you Ludwig."
"Stop...please." Sobs were coming. No...it can't... Not now...
"Feliciano...I...I love you too." He smiled. I leaned to kiss his lips lightly. I pulled back slightly. He shuddered and moved no more.
"Nein...Nein...NEIN!" Sobs began to wrack my body. "Italy...Italy please...don't leave... I'm alone...not again..." I cradled his lifeless body as the warmth faded ever so slowly. I was alone. Alone again. Forever. You can't leave me. Not now...not ever.
