Through the Realms of Possibility: Introduction
In a remote section of the vast green abyss of the Ghost Zone, there floats a large tower, where sounds of ticking clocks and turning gears can be heard. Not many ghosts come this way, but some do occasionally happen upon it.
Some of the spirits who pass this place find it oddly comforting, yet at the same time feel compelled not to enter, as if they are simply not meant to do so. Perhaps in time, they will be allowed inside, but they are content to wait.
Other apparitions find the constant whirring unnerving, and stray far from the source of their unease. They have no intention of finding this place again, yet as they reflect on their encounters with the tower, it somehow feels as though the old building had been the one to find them rather than the other way around.
Still others ignore the place as if it did not exist, going about their business as usual. They may see it one day, or perhaps not. Right now, that matters little.
Whatever the reaction, the tower is indeed there, home to one of the oldest beings in existence - the legendary spirit, Clockwork. From his tower, he keeps constant vigil over all of Time itself. Using a number of "windows" in the temporal fabric, he can view any possible event, no matter how insignificant.
These windows can be used to travel through time as well, though very few have ever dared to interfere with the Timestream. The many branching timelines within the Stream are endless and complicated, leading to a surprising amount of fragility as they twist and separate. This fragility can result in unintended, devastating consequences if even a small portion of the Timestream is tampered with by someone without complete knowledge of its workings
No, travel through the temporal windows is strictly a last resort to be taken only by Clockwork himself.
Fortunately, we have been given the opportunity to observe for ourselves the sheer diversity of the paths within the Stream.
The images in each window flicker rapidly until they each settle on a different version of reality. However, one thing seems to be constant.
Currently, each window shows a different version of the life of Daniel Fenton.
Clockwork allows himself one small enigmatic smile. It seems that Daniel will make a name for himself regardless of what reality he inhabits. Still, each Daniel is bound to have at least some differences from the others, and so he shall provide an interesting subject for our observation.
Let us look now into the Timestream, through the realms of possibility...
