His voice calls out to her, the usually powerful thunder-like voice now merely a croak as he reaches out for her.
Allison comes to her bravest hero, already bracing herself to heal him when Scott's weak hand wraps around her wrist. She looks down to see his bloody smile, can feel that it takes all the strength he can muster to tighten his grip around her.
"No. Not this time." He rasps.
Allison blinks, "What do you mean?" She fears she already knows.
For his part, Scott's smile sombers. He releases her hand to try and reach up for her cheek, like he has so many times before. Allison grabs his hand and helps lead it to her skin, cradling it to her face. "I wish to go."
She can easily heal him, stop the blood from leaving the cracks of his armor and give him back his strength. Make him full of life again. He knows this. And yet he wishes for her to just let him die. To release him from his duty and be left with the fading warmth of his memory. But... Allison could keep him for forever and never let him go.
"Please, Allison." He pleads.
For once she wishes she were human. That she could be the one begging to the Gods to keep him alive. That she could be selfish enough to keep him by her side.
But she isn't human.
Allison only gives herself the small pleasure of kissing the palm of his hand before bringing it to rest over her heart. Reaching out with her free hand to brush back Scott's curls from his forehead one last time, "I release you."
Allison watches her hero's chest fall still, his eyes looking hopefully up at her even in death.
Allison wishes she could die along with him.
