Andrew looked at himself in the newly bought mirror in his room. He wore a T-shirt advertising the Winterdown Comprehensive rowing team and some light blue jeans that squashed the contents of his crotch. It didn't matter to him though he thought as he looked over his subsiding acne for today was the day.
He was going on a date with Gaia.
It had happened a few weeks ago when during her last day at Pagford he asked her to walk with him to the river, where the Cubby Hole was.
"Sure." She had said.
So he walked along the shore with her talking about Miles's new acts as Pagford council member, Krystal and Robbie's funeral, Fats's reasons for being the Ghost of Barry Fairbrother and more. The whole time Gaia didn't know that Andrew was considering the massive temptation of asking out Gaia on a date. They got near the Cubby Hole.
"There's a small cave over there where Fats and I have been hanging out over the years." Pointed out Andrew.
"Oh cool, can we go?" asked Gaia in her London accent.
"Sure" said Andrew excitedly, "The cross is a bit dangerous though."
Gaia snorted, "That's all this bloody town is." She said, "Dangerous. Thank God I'm moving back to London."
Andrew said nothing at this but in his head he felt anger and sadness at knowing that the most beautiful girl he had ever met was now leaving him. They went across the small passage to the Cubby Hole and went inside. Andrew once again had to crouch in order to not touch the ceiling and Gaia did as well. She looked around the Cubby Hole.
"Bit messy here isn't?" she asked after seeing all of the used fags on the floor.
"Oh yeah, that's umm Fats. He always lit them when we got in here."
"And you didn't?" she asked observing him.
"Umm…"
She laughed, "I'm joking, I know you did and I don't honestly care."
"Oh well so looking forward to London then?"
She blew her hair, "God yes! Can't wait to leave here. You know my mum only moved here because of her bitch boyfriend and now that he's out, we can finally move back."
"Will you miss your friends here?"
"I don't really have any friends here-well except for Sukhvinder and you."
Andrew's heart leapt at this but he realized that if he didn't do anything soon they'd remain just that. Friends.
"No one else?" he asked her.
"Nah, everyone else are just boys trying to get into my pants. As if." She said crossly.
"So you don't like any boys here?" he asked nervously.
"No, they love for all the wrong reasons, they think I don't see them looking at my tits or arse. Glad you're not like them Andrew."
"Yeah no I'm not like them, I'm better." Said Andrew putting emphasis on the last few words. Gaia looked into his eyes for a few seconds then she turned to the river again.
"Do you think I'm pretty Andrew?" she asked. Andrew, without thinking, said the first thing on his mind.
"I think you're the most beautiful girl I've ever met." He said, then he sank back, shocked at what he had just said. Gaia turned back towards him again staring for a few seconds before she clutched him by his shirt and pulled him towards her, she brought her lips to his. They kept their lips pressed together for what seemed like an eternity to Andrew before she parted. Andrew guessed that he must be wearing an expression of complete amazement and he became slowly aware of his growing erection. Gaia got up to leave.
"Not bad." She said. Andrew got up and looked at her.
"Will you go out with me?"
Andrew finished tying his shoes and left his room to go downstairs. All that was left now was to wait for Gaia to pick him up.
Later the doorbell rang and Andrew went excitedly to the door. He opened it.
"Hello Gaia."
