Couple: Willow and Buffy

Rating: PG-13

Setting: It's been almost six months since Tara's death and Willow is celebrating what would have been her twenty second birthday. Buffy senses that all is not well and comes to her side.

The Dance

She remembered how she held her tightly on the dance floor as they rose into the air. She remembered how her skin seemed to glow that night, there was an energy the seemed to flow from Tara McClay that night. Tara was pure magic, the most innocent and wonderful person in the world to her.

Willow Rosenberg lit a solitary candle in memory of her lost love. Although it had been almost six months since she had been wrongly murdered, Willow still hoped and prayed that she'd wake up and it would have all been a dream.

A warm tear made it's way down Willow's face and fell onto the floor. Willow set the candle down onto the floor and pulled her legs into a fetal position. She laid on the floor for what seemed like hours and just cried. It seemed like the only logical thing to do was to fall apart.

" Come back to me....please. " she whispered into the small flame in front of her. As if from her command, the door to Willow's room opened and there in the shadows was the outline of a girl. Willow's heart thumped in her chest and she sat up.

" Tara? " she asked the shadowy figure. The figure walked forward and her features were revealed. Willow's heart sunk when she realized it was only Buffy. She knelt down next to her friend and softly stroked her hair.

" I'm sorry Will, I didn't mean to startle you. Wanna tell me what's going on? " Buffy asked in a soft voice. Willow leaned into Buffy's embrace, it felt good to be held again, even if it wasn't Tara. Buffy continued to stroke Willow's red hair as she began to speak.

" I just wanted to remember her. I mean no one besides me even gave Tara's birthday a second thought last year and now she's gone and no one will remember her. " Willow managed to say. She felt more tears coming as she ended her words. Buffy pulled her friend in closer and shushed her.

" No one is going to forget her, she was amazing and will never die in our memories. " Buffy said trying to comfort Willow.

Willow had the radio on and she froze when a familar song came on. It was the song that she and Tara had danced to at the party at the Bronze. Buffy remembered it too and looked down at her friend.

" May I have this dance? " she asked Willow. Willow looked up and smiled and Buffy helped her to her feet. Willow leaned into Buffy's arms and slowly paced back and forth to the soft melody. Buffy massaged her hands up and down Willow's back.

As the song neared it's ending, Buffy tilted her hand down towards Willow's ear and whispered.

" You're always going to be my best friend, no matter what and always remember that I love you and always will. " She softly kissed Willow's bare forehead with her tender lips. Willow smiled at her friend. " I love you too Buffy. " she said. She rested her head back on Buffy's shoulder again until the song ended.
