For years we have been together. First as friends, now as lovers. No children, tried and failed for some time. Now we just live our lives, between guild and home. Today will be special. I did not know it a few hours ago, but it is. It all began with Natsu…
He was fine only a moment ago. Then his face contorted to one of worry, what for I did not know. Mine moved to match his, not because of what he is thinking but of what I can see in his expression. I ask him what is wrong. He replies that he can hear an irregular heartbeat coming from me. I feel my pulse, nothing worth mention. I tell him he's wrong.
This time, he moves in closer to me forgetting we are in the middle of the guild. Listening, his face returns to the previous state of worry it was in before. I continue telling him he is wrong. By now both Erza and Gray have noticed something is wrong with Natsu's behaviour.
Gray comes and throws insults at him. Unresponsive, Natsu continues listening to my chest. I tell him again to stop, by this point I think I am blushing. Gray now gains the same look as Natsu, he knows the fire mage would never pass up the chance to fight. He moves down to his hands and knees to hear my feet. Levy and Gajeel are now staring from the bar, Laxus and Freed doing the same.
I'm urging my husband to move away, leave me be. Nothing was wrong! This round of shouting caught the attention of Juvia, as well as Mirajane and Lisanna. I tell him something is wrong with him. Natsu speaks, beckoning Wendy to come to him. I glare at master, watching me with a drunk Cana. Great!
Wendy replies that she can hear the heartbeat too. Gajeel was already coming, but he collaborates her story. The guild are starting to worry too, just as Natsu moves to my hands. He picks up my right hand, the one with my guild mark on it.
Now I'm starting to worry about my health as he drops my hands again. Natsu moves methodically from one place on my body to another until he says there are two distinct heartbeats. A look of confusion follows from every onlooker, even me.
Natsu finally reaches my stomach, his ear pressed against my belly button. He looked confused before but now he looks dumbfounded. After a minute he questions me. Why would a heartbeat come from there? I realise the answer, a smile blossoming from my face. Everybody is the same and begin chanting and cheering and singing and drinking. Except me and Natsu kissing in front of everyone. Happy that we will soon have a child.
I keep forgetting to mention but I do not own Fairy Tail. If I did, somebody would be dead by now.
This story is just a little thing I thought of when remembering that dragonslayers have enhanced hearing. I hope to get If They Never Met written quickly and if I don't blame reality and T-Rated Gratsu fics.
