Deep in the forest, while all was silent, a tiny kit stumbled through the bracken. Pitiful wails came out of the kit's mouth. "Mum! Where are you?" The young kit, Dove, wailed in despair. An owl hooted in the distance, frightening the young kit. Dove ran off, straight into a bramble bush. "Ah! Help me!" Dove cried out. There was no answer. Dove squealed, this time in pain, as she tried to pull free of the unyielding brambles.

Farther from where the kit was, Jaypaw was gathering herbs. He was just about to head back when the squeal of the kit echoed through the forest. Sniffing, Jaypaw caught the scent of a tiny kit. Racing through the forest, Jaypaw stood at the edge of the bramble bush. The kit whimpered and squealed at the sight of him. Jaypaw walked over to the kit. He tugged at the brambles, trying to free her. "Don't worry, little one. It'll be alright. I'll take you to my clan," Jaypaw told the kit when the bramble snare was taken from her. He picked the kit up by the scruff of her neck and hurried through the forest.
