I wrote this to see if my new computer would let me upload stories.
Hello?
Charon tiptoed through the confines of Lock, Shock, and Barrel's treehouse. It was, surprisingly, empty.
"Hello?" Charon called into the armory. Axes and maces lay sprawled across the floor, and she didn't dare step inside and hurt herself. She shrugged her shoulders and decided to look somewhere else.
She stepped into the main room, tripping over the elevator cage.
"Hello?" Charon shooed away a cockroach with her foot, and quickly grabbed a handful of popcorn out of the nearby machine (yes, they do have a popcorn machine). She stuffed it in her mouth before moving on.
She took a staircase down to Oogie's Lair. His skin had been removed from the spinny-mixer thing; a piece of plywood covered the lava pit.
"Hello?" Charon yelled into the room. It echoed earily. She darted her head around, looking nervous. "Hello?"
Nothing. Dangit. Oh well.
She quoted one of her favorite movies. "Once more onto the breach go Meanies!" She made her way to a seperate room.
This room was the kid's bathroom. Charon shut her eyes (unless someone was in there), and yelped as she stepped on a rubber duck.
"Hello?" said Charon. She opened her eyes. Nobody here. "Hello?"
Charon looked at the ducky. It was a demon ducky, made with red plastic. It had little devil horns, fangs, and a devil cape.
"Hey!" Charon picked up the thing. "A Stupid.com Devil Ducky! Neato!" She shoved it into her pocket to look on.
Her search continued!
"Hello?" Charon looked into the kids' bedroom, which was a cleaned out closet with blankets covering the bottom. Charon took a look under one of the blankets. "Hello- SPIDER! AH!"
She had made it out of the door just before the black widow managed to bite her. She made one last glance inside to make sure it wasn't chasing her. She sighed, closed her eyes, and shut the door behind her, leaning her weight on the door.
Her ears detected giggling. And a few words.
"Be quiet!"
"Wait 'til she opens her eyes."
"Hello?" Charon finally let herself look around.
"SURPRISE!" The entire town called out to her. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!"
"AH-HA!" Charon ran up and hugged Jack, scooping Sally into her arms as well. "That's where you've been! I was worried!"
"Happy birthday, Charon!" Lock laughed. "Looks like you found your first present."
"The ducky?" Charon picked the Devil Ducky out of her pocket. "This is a present? It's cute!"
"Barrel was supposed to wrap it," Shock meanly directed the comment at Barrel.
"We were out of wrapping paper," Barrel explained. "Bon anniversaire!"
"Thank you, very much!" Charon laughed.
