Remember the Time
One Shot
The cherry blossom tree was blooming beautifully. Anzu admired it from afar, sitting on a bench next to Yami as he flicked through his deck of duelling cards.
She cast her eyes to the spirit of the Puzzle. A sudden thought occurring to her. "Yami, what are you going to do after you find out who you really are?" Anzu asked curiously.
Yami paused in his flicking. He lifted his amethyst eyes to hers. "I'm not sure," he replied honestly. "I only know what I have to do presently. The future is unknown to me."
"What if… What if by some chance you find out everything… but in doing so, you leave us?" Anzu bit her lip as she turned her head away, not wanting him to see the worry within her eyes.
"Anzu…" Yami said softly. He lent forward and touched his friend's chin, guiding her eyes back to his. He smiled reassuringly. "No matter what happens in the future, you, Jou, Honda and Yuugi, will always remain important to me. Friendship, like the one we have, never dies as long as we remember the good times we've shared."
"B-But…" Anzu began in protest, only to be cut off by the spirit.
"If I do end up leaving you all, remember this moment, Anzu. Remember this conversation… and remember this kiss," Yami finished as he scooted closer and gently placed his lips against hers, kissing her tenderly.

Two months later, Anzu stood by, Jou's hand on her shoulder. Tears trickling down her cheeks, she bade a final goodbye to the spirit known as Atemu, remembering the good times they had shared together, just as he had told her to do.
