I don't own Haven. Really.
Gah, I wanna throw something. I don't ship Audrey/Duke. I don't. I'm an Audrey/Nathan shipper. Really, I am. But this new season is corrupting me, and it's only three episodes in! So...here goes nothing.

No one saw his heart break. Not Audrey, who had her face turned from him, buried in Nathan's collar. Not Nathan, who had closed his eyes the moment Audrey touched him and now stood with his arms around her and his chin against her hair. Not even Duke himself, as he stood, watching in silence as they held each other close. But he felt it. Felt it shatter into a thousand pieces, shards lodged in his chest like glass.
Nathan wasn't the only one who'd searched for her. The only one who'd found her. The only one who loved her. He never had been. Yet he was the only one that seemed to matter to her. His search. His love.
"C'mon, let's get you outa here." Nathan's voice was soft and gentle, coaxing, the type of tone that Audrey would usually argue with, but this time, when Duke most wanted her to, she didn't. She let Nathan lead her outside and help her into his truck, leaving Duke to take his turn standing in the doorway of the inn.
"You coming, Crocker?"
Nathan's tone wasn't soothing anymore; it had turned sharp and authoritative, the tone that Duke usually argued with. He'd almost refused, almost said he would find his own way back to town, when Audrey spoke.
"Duke?"
He sighed and climbed into the truck, squeezing in on the passenger side and pulling the door shut behind him as Nathan turned the key. Audrey sighed, her whole body relaxing as she slumped down in the seat between them.
"You okay?" Duke asked quietly.
"Yeah," she murmured, closing her eyes and leaning her head back against the seat. "I'm okay. That poor woman-"
"We'll figure that out." Nathan promised quietly from her other side. "Don't worry about it right now."
Audrey made a noise of protest, her head falling to rest on Nathan's shoulder, and sighed again.
Duke looked, away, staring out the window as the shards in his chest twisted painfully. Then, he felt Audrey touch his hand, fingers wrapping around his and squeezing gently before she released him and pulled her hand back into her lap.
"Thanks for finding me."
Nathan mumbled something that Duke didn't catch, but when he glanced over, Audrey's eyes were open, and she was watching him silently. He nodded, not trusting himself to speak, and turned back to the window. As he did so, he felt the shards in his chest shrink just a bit. Maybe- just maybe- Nathan wasn't the only one who mattered to her. He could work with that.

Okay, that was terrible, and I'm gonna blame it on my unwillingness to ship Audrey and Duke, even though I can't seem to help it lately. Anyway, leave a review if you liked it, kay? And constructive criticism is always welcome, but no flames! Thanks!
