The evening hangs beneath the moon
A silver thread on darkened dune
With closing eyes and resting head
I know that sleep is coming soon
Liz Lemon can't sleep, and for the first time in her life it wasn't because of work. No, instead she had been woken up by her brain telling her how remarkably shocking her current situation was. She had merely lay next to Jack -her husband- in their hotel bed on their honeymoon. He of course, was sleeping like a baby. A baby that had just fulfilled every fantasy that had ever played out in his head with his 'I don't want to fulfill any of your fantasies, especially outdoor sex where people will see us. Are you kidding? Is that something that appeals to you?" wife. Well okay, she had become more comfortable with sex ever since being with Jack, but that wasn't the point.
The point was, she couldn't sleep, and she She had blamed it on the fact that she was hungry. Liz put on Jack's dress shirt and quickly proceeded to the kitchen (Yes, they had a kitchen in their suite. Suck it, monkeys!) where she had proceeded to eat several bites of cake before returning to their bed with a half-full glass of water. She set the glass on the nightstand and proceeded to curl up next to Jack.
They had known each other for four, almost five years before he asked her out to dinner. For real that time, instead of something pertaining to a business deal. Although she did enjoy doing business with him (That's what your mom said last night, yeah suck it, self!) in every sense of the word. A year later he had proposed.
She snickered at herself, both at her lame joke and at how far they had come in that time. She stared out the window with her head propped up against her arm as a thousand pictures filled her head. Some of her, of Jack, of the two of them, their antics, their relationship, their wedding, the smile on Liz's face when she and Jack had kissed at the altar.
Liz sucked in a breath through her nose and let out a small sigh of content, feeling tears of happiness flow down her face. She sniffed, laying her head down on her arm, using the bedsheets to wipe away some of the tears. She would never have to be alone again, would never have to again fear of choking to death alone in her apartment. At least, as long as this lasted, as long as Jack chose to be with her. Her paranoia kicked in, and she rose her arm to knock on the wooden headboard so as not to jinx herself.
"Lemon..." she heard Jack croak
"Hm?" she pretended to be asleep.
He turned himself over and spooned her, wrapping their fingers together on her stomach. He lay his head in the crook in he neck, planting a soft kiss there.
"You're thinking too loud." he whispered against her.
"Oh, sorry..." she turned in his embrace, capturing his lips with her own "Thank you Jack,"
"You're welcome," he rasped as he returned her kiss. Without opening his eyes he says, "Now go to sleep, we have a busy day tomorrow."
"I thought you said you didn't have to work-"
He opens his eyes, fierce but passionate "That's not what I meant Lemon"
"Oh!...Oh"
She cuddled back into his embrace, feeling his warm breath on the back of her neck. Her limbs seemed suddenly made of lead, she knew that sleep was coming soon.
"Goodnight Jack."
But he was already asleep again, to where she was heading. Where clouds of dreams give second sight.
What dreams may come both dark and deep, of flying wings and soaring leap as she surrendered unto sleep.
