The final one-shot written for the First Klaine Kit. I can't believe it's over! Short but sweet. Enjoy!
Blaine looked around. He recognized this place but at the same time he didn't. At first glance, it looked like the Lima Bean where he and Kurt met regularly in high school. But then, once he looked closer, he recognized features from their favorite coffee shop in New York. And outside the window was the park he and Kurt lived across from.
"Hey stranger."
Blaine turned and saw Kurt sitting at their normal table. A smile lit up his face. Kurt looked just like he remembered him from the first day they ever met, wide-eyed and full of innocence.
"Hey," he replied. "It's been a while, hasn't it?"
Kurt shrugged.
"I suppose but it doesn't matter now. You're here. That's all that truly matters."
"Sorry I took so long. There were a few things I wanted to take care of," Blaine apologized.
Kurt stood up and walked over to Blaine. He took Blaine's left hand into his and rubbed his thumb over the ring that Blaine wore on his ring finger.
"It's okay Blaine," he reassured his husband. "I didn't mind waiting. It allowed me to think about some things."
"Such as?" Blaine prodded. Kurt gave Blaine a soft smile.
"We had a hard time of it, but the good always outweighed the bad," he informed Blaine. "Despite the name calling and occasional harassment, we got so much more out of life than we could have ever expected."
"Like a family?" Blaine asked. Kurt nodded.
"Two actually. One made up out of people that care for us and one we created. We also made a life for ourselves. We didn't take what was thrown at us and just accepted it. We carved out our place in the world and we made it better. We made sure we got what we wanted and that we were happy doing so."
Blaine let out a small sniffle at Kurt's words.
"You always knew what to say," he said sappily. Kurt gave him a lopsided grin and Blaine continued.
"I'm glad we lived up to our promise to each other."
"Which promise?" Kurt asked, tilting his head to the side. Blaine lifted up Kurt's hand and kissed it lightly.
"The one we made on our wedding night," he reminded Kurt. "That nothing would separate us. That we would be with each other—"
"Forever and always," Kurt finished, meeting Blaine's eyes with his own. The two held the gaze for a few short seconds, but the seconds felt like moments. As it had on their wedding day, it felt like the world had stopped spinning just for them.
Kurt broke the gaze.
"Come on," he said, pulling Blaine by his hand. "There's some people that want to see you."
"Oh?" Blaine asked. Kurt nodded.
"Everyone's here," he told Blaine. "They greeted me when I found this place and now they want to greet you."
As the pair left the coffee shop, Blaine glanced behind him and his gaze landed on a stone that was partially hidden behind the building. He didn't get a chance to read it but he didn't need to. He already knew what it said.
