Note: this assumes that Chell doesn't know who the Rat Man is.
Chell is looking at the latest proof of her predecessor's insanity. It reads:
so I asked and here said god,
boxed in heart an' alloy shell,
a friend you'll have, pathetic sod,
yours until its fateful knell.
And the thought is always there, of course, that this is what she'll become. A squirreled away recluse in some long forgotten crawl space eating canned beans and gibbering nonsense. She wonders how long it will take until she ditches the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device for spray-paint and join in.
that's well and good, I loved it lots,
this one-same cube, My very own,
until SHE came and blundered 'cross;
all testing-fire hateful-prone.
alone was i in scattered dens,
chest concave & wounded bruise;
left to watch with view-long lens
the vengeful GLaDOS lose.
And it is actual paint now; a full spectrum of color even. But that was before finding this den. No longer do angry bloody hatch marks adorn dirty walls, no longer is she gifted with Weighted Companion Cube collages or prophetic bit-sized rhetoric.
But why ask I on Our return
into depths of testing hall,
why do We in darkness churn
when day shines on yonder wall?
No, this time some psycho is drawing her.
party bots, i so reply,
up above sound battle cry,
hush now and don't deny,
you're bent to fit as Good-Guy.
steal into this a darkened room,
take these and that and fix Chell's tomb,
Knows her by name!
power 's down and will consume,
act quick save girl from doom.
perhaps you were given, too,
moral's lack with mind askew,
but here girl'll sleep ages through,
wake at last alone in queue.
She isn't comfortable with this fanatic's rendering. At all. Because she hadn't known she was being followed. She moves in a Sentry Turret as criticism and hopes it'll shoot the crazy out of 'em
Immortality
has found my Cube; will now find
cryogenic tube.
She leaves and will not go back.
Ever.
