Eleven's POV:

"Department of Education." I said as I took a seat in the back of Clara's English class. "Just pretend I'm not here."

"All right then." Clara said, drawing the class's attention back to her instead of me. "Let's talk about our college prep word for today." She bent down to look at the book on her desk, pushing her hair behind her ear on one side. Such a simple gesture, but for some reason it made my hearts beat a little bit faster…

"Today's word is, treacherous." Clara said as she turned & wrote it on the board. "Meaning dangerous in an unpredictable way."

Was it my imagination, or did she look right at me when she said that?

She's not wrong, of course. Having jumped into my time stream, she knows all too well what can happen to those that I travel with.

Clara continues the lesson, & I try to pay attention, but all I can think about is how much longer I'll have to sit here before I can whisk her away in the TARDIS to some other time & place. Before I can see her eyes light up as we encounter something new, something she never imagined…

In her own way, she is something new. Something that I had never imagined in all my years…

Sometimes I wonder if I'm falling in love with her…

Which is impossible, of course. Sure, it's happened before, but this is different. I'm married.

But she's The Impossible Girl, & she can do impossible things, like making this mad man fall in love all over again.

But the people I love are always the ones who seem to get hurt the most. They're left alone, standing on a beach or walking away from a love that wasn't returned or thinking that they're only ordinary when they're truly extraordinary…

Even my own wife died on the very day I met her.

"So, before we go, I want to pass out the book you'll be reading this month." Clara said, handing small stacks down the rows for the students to pass along. The student sitting in front of me handed me a copy. The cover was an image of a young woman with red hair, hand in hand with a Roman Warrior.

Waiting for Him was the title. It was written by Amelia Williams.

The bell rang, & as the students left I pulled out my reading glasses, actually Amy's reading glasses, & flipped to the afterward.

"Ready to go?" Clara asked, after gathering her stuff together. "Unless there's some sort of reason why you were in my last class?"

"Just wanted to see what you did when we weren't together." I said, jumping up like I wasn't over a thousand years old.

"So where are we going?" she asked as we left the class room.

"Anywhere you'd like." I answered with a smile.

"Clara, you…you do realize the risks that come with travelling with me, don't you?" I asked as we walked down the hallway.

"Of course I do." she said. "But I like it."

She reached out & grabbed my hand, holding it tight. My hearts seemed to beat with joy.

"In that case, did you that there's actually a great Gatsby?" I asked. "He's not human, his name's not even Gatsby, but he does have the most lavish parties in this galaxy." I smiled at her. "You don't even need an invite! Beings from all over just flock to his planet for a good time."

Hand in hand, we pushed open the doors to the school & ran to the TARDS. The way I felt about Clara, it was dangerous.

It was reckless.

It was treacherous.

…I like it.

This is the first Doctor Who fic I've had the courage to post! I'm still new to this fandom, so I'm still working on making sure the voices sound correct & in character. Feedback is greatly appreciated!
