Passing Notes by IDK man 13

The music pounded from the speakers in the small local watering hole. People were dancing to the twang of the country music while others littered the long bar. A young woman stood at a back booth cleaning the table for her next round of costumers. She stood up with a tray full of glasses and a rag and flipped her long red pony tail behind her back.

Now, Jasper, knew it was impolite to stare but he couldn't help himself. Tonight was his first night of semi freedom in eighteen weeks and he was going to openly gape at a gorgeous female if he wanted.

"Hey, Hale, You trying to burn a hole through that waitress?" Jasper snapped his buzzed head toward his buddy Dalton. The group of soldiers laughed at their companion.

"Hey shut up Dalton at least I have enough game that I don't have to pay for a massage." Jasper spat as he turned to find the angel in shorts. The GI's laughed as Dalton's face tuned red.

"Hale, why don't you go ask that girl out if you're so smooth?" one of the other guys asked as he took a drink of his coke. Jasper looked around the small group then steeled himself. Of course he would ask this girl out. He was Private Jasper Hale trained to kill, a warrior. So with a push of confidence he got up from his seat and approached the girl who was now behind the bar wiping the counter. The heart in his chest thrummed in his ears as he got nearer and nearer to his target.

Casually, he leaned against the wood slab in front of the waitress. Before he could say anything, however, a chorus of chimes flooded his ears.

"Did you need something?" the girl asked staring at the spaced soldier in front of her. Jasper straightened up, and in a rush to say something blurted out,

"Hello, I'm a Hale and my name is Private." in the back ground he could hear the snickers of his friends. Immediately, Jasper mentally groaned. The beautiful red head chuckled a little,

"I think the uniform gives you away there stud, but you are cute," the waitress smiled, "My name is Maxine but you can call me Max." Jasper's breath caught in his chest as Maxine slid a small a piece of paper across to him. Jasper picked it up and watched as she walked away. Clinching the paper Jasper made his way back to his seat with a cocky smile plastered on his face.

"See I all I had to do is introduce myself," Jasper laughed as he opened the folded note and read it,

- Nice try soldier better luck next weekend.

He felt the heat rush to his face as he dropped the paper to the table.

"Rejected," One of his companions said.

"Not as smooth as you thought are you, Hale?" Dalton laughed. Just then a light bulb went off above Jasper's head.

"I'm not out of the count yet," he said grabbing a pen from the pen holder on his jacket sleeve. Feverishly scribbling on the note. A smirk formed on his face as he stood up once again. Maxine was sweeping around a table.

"Hey Max," she heard a familiar voice called behind her. As she turned around the same soldier from earlier smiled .

"Look, I -"

"Just give me a chance," Jasper interrupted as he put the newly folded paper in her hand. Maxine opened the paper and read his writing,

- I think you are beautiful. And I would like to get to know you.

(678) 546-0000 Call me. By the way my name is Jasper.

Maxine looked up from the note fully intending to give it back but the guy was gone.

"Hey Max, I'll see you next weekend." She heard his voice call out from the door. She turned to see him give his beret one last adjustment as he left the bar. Maxine felt the rumble of butterflies as she just smiled, shook her head, and put the paper in her apron.
