Distraction: A Stargate: Atlantis tale

Major John Sheppard sighed as he listed to Elizabeth Weir, head of Stargate: Atlantis, talking about some new project or something. He had begun to lose his focus as soon as she asked Dr. Rodney McKay, one of the scientist geeks working on the station, to illustrate the purpose and methods by which they would attain their goals. Everyone else in the meeting seemed to be listening with rapt attention to the plans being unfolded, but when he glanced at Teyla, leader of an indigenous people the Atlantis team had inadvertently displaced, he saw that she too seemed to be thinking about something else.

He motioned with his head towards the door and waited to see if she understood. He slowly got up and held up his empty cup like he was going to get a drink of water and left the room. No one seemed to notice or care. He closed the door most of the way and leaned against the wall just outside the room. He waited. A few moments later he was rewarded by the door opening slowly again followed by Teyla's slipping into the hall. She smiled but did not make a sound as he slipped his hand into hers and they stole down the hall.

"Do you think they will notice that we're both gone, John?" Teyla whispered as they continued their now hurried trek towards an upper level balcony overlooking the ocean.

"I doubt it, they seemed pretty engrossed in that…..scientific stuff. C'mon, hurry up." She giggled lightly as he pulled her towards their destination. He felt a little guilty about skipping out on the meeting, but he had more important things to worry about. Like the woman who was perilously close to him and whose warm breath he could feel on his neck. He shivered at the goosebumps that she elicited from him.

They finally reached the balcony. He opened the door and pulled her onto the ledge with him just before pushing her against the wall. His lips found the side of her neck and she moaned lightly at his kisses. He pulled his head up and met her lips and tongue with his own. John pulled away suddenly.

"Hey, look." A shooting star streaked across the darkening sky. "Make a wish. On Earth, a shooting star is said to be lucky." He squeezed her hand as he closed his eyes.

"My people have a similar tradition. Those lovers who come together under such a display would be blessed with many children." She smiled wryly as he looked sideways at her.

His mouth opened to respond but nothing came out. "Close your mouth, Major. It's most unbecoming." Elizabeth said from behind him.

"Congratulations!" Everyone yelled as Major John Sheppard fainted.
