Time To Go
Author's notes: I posted this on tumblr a while ago, about time it was put here...
Warnings: Obvious AU, I guess.
Murphy gave the quiet man an almost sad look, backing away from him a step. "I'm leaving now, they'll catch me if I stay any longer." He turned his back to him, looking up at the town's welcome sign, exhaustion written over his expression.
"I'm coming with you." Henry replied, determined as he closed the gap again and gently grabbed Murphy's wrist. "We'll find a place to stay in the country, where they won't be looking and…."
"No, Henry. I'm going alone."
The younger man's grip tightened slightly. "You are not." He walked in front of Murphy, who refused to look down to meet his gaze. "We're leaving together and we're leaving now. Th-there's no use telling me no." He mentally cursed the stutter, but remained strong. The dark eyed man finally met his stare, jaw tight as he seemed to be working through something in his mind. A hand was placed on the back of Henry's neck and Murphy pulled him into a kiss. He clung to the man's shirt as their tongue's worked each other's in a gentle, but passionate kiss.
Murphy seemed to have to pull himself away, swallowing hard as he stared at the Henry's slightly chapped (and adorable) lips. "You can leave now, Henry." He held back his emotion, but the repression made his voice low. "You can be free in every sense of the word and… And try to move on." Henry was going to argue, but the man held two fingers to his lips. "Shh now. Listen to me. As if my being older than you weren't a problem. I have baggage kid. A *lot* of baggage. And… The cops will be looking for me when they can't find my body. I'm an escaped felon convicted of being a cop killer." Henry took Murphy's fingers from his lips and held the hand. "I… I can't do this to you, Henry. I can't because I… I care about you. You're young, yes even 30 is young. You're young and I'm…" He sighed and looked away, unable to take his hand away from the other's grip.
"A good man." Was the quiet reply. There was an anxiety showing on the usually emotionless face and it would have scared Murphy, had he not felt such guilt for what he was doing. "You… You're perfect for me. I know you think that with your past, you're too much to handle." Henry was nearly mumbling his words, unsure of what to say or at least scared that Murphy would ignore him. "But… I've always wanted quiet. Even before all this… this fucked up stuff happened. I just want someone there, someone who… who knows…." He inhaled quickly and pulled Murphy into a tight embrace. "You ass hole… You aren't leaving without me. What about last night? The day before that? Everything we've been through…"
"I… I don't…" What could he possibly reply to that. His hesitation seemed to give Henry confidence.
"We stay together, then." He grabbed Murphy's arm from behind and started walking. "Now let's go before the town changes it's mind."
"Henry…"
"Don't." It was said with an air of finality that Murphy couldn't argue with.
The older man sighed softly, but had to smile as he begun to keep pace with Henry's faster walking. He wasn't going to mess up a good thing again.
