If you have more than one copy of Lucas' book I'm out of here.
You still love him?
I've already been in a relationship that had the stench of Lucas Scott hanging over it.
His words echo in my mind as I drop my bag on the counter. There's no emergency meeting. I may not be Haley James-Scott genius smart, but I'm smart enough to know that. I walk over to the fridge to get a bottle of water and pause as I look at the photos. Me and Jamie, me and Peyton, Me and…. Shit! I turn and grab my keys, running out the door. I stop at the sidewalk and look down the street. He hasn't got very far but it's far enough and the next thing I know I'm chasing after him.
"Julian!" I yell, my heels clacking on the sidewalk loudly. "Julian!" He finally hears me and turns around to look at me, a curious expression on his face.
"Brooke, what are you doing?" He asks when I reach him, out of breath and gasping for air.
"I only have one." I say finally.
"What?" Julian looks at me as though I've lost my mind.
"Lucas' book. I only have one copy." I clarify as my breathing evens out.
"Brooke…" He sighs heavily. "That's not…."
"No listen to me." I grab his hand urgently. He needs to hear this and I need to say this. "I am not Peyton Sawyer. I don't have 25 copies of Lucas' book. To be honest, the only parts I really like are the ones about me." He smirks a little a my lame joke. "You asked me if I still loved him." I pause as his expression become serious. "The truth is Lucas Scott is a huge part of my past and he is one of my best friends so I will always love him. But I'm not in love with him anymore and I haven't been for a long time." He looks like he wants to say something but I keep right on going. "I may not be able to say those words to you yet and it is partially because of Lucas but not for the reasons you think. You were right, last time I gave someone my heart, they gave it back pretty broken and bruised and I haven't let anybody in since so you've got to give me time, OK? Because I could love you. I'm already on my way. You said you'd wait for me so I need you do that. I need you to wait for me."
"I'm not going anywhere." He wraps his arms around me and I melt into him. I can't loose him. I just can't. "I love you. I couldn't leave you even if I tried." He gently brushes his hand across my cheek. "So, when you're ready to say those words, I'll be here. You're it for me, Brooke Davis." He pulls me back into his arms, cradling my head to his chest and I breathe a sigh of relief. Maybe, just maybe, this time I'll get my happy ending.
