After a particularly long day Keladry of Mindelan, Lady Knight in charge of the refugee camp New Hope, eased back in her chair. The request for supplies and other assorted paperwork littering her desk could wait a little longer she decided. Call it an executive decision.
Propping her long legs up on the desk, she crossed her arms over her chest and nodded off.
She woke up next to the sensation of someone watching her. Cracking open an eye, awake instantly and all senses on alert, she saw the long form of Sergeant Domitan of Masbolle leaning back against her desk, his arms crossed over his chest as his eyes danced merrily.
"Lucky I wasn't the enemy," Dom kidded. "New Hope would have fallen with their O So Might Leader asleep at the helm."
"Sod off," Kel replied, retaliation petty as she pushed at his leg before slipping her own legs to the floor, surprised she hadn't done so yet. She must be getting used to him, she mused.
"Is that how you greet your long lost friend?" teased Dom dramatically with a grin.
"You'll be long lost for much longer if you keep it up," she shot back as she refused to look at him, her suddenly restless hands reaching for the paperwork.
Her retort was ignored. "Did you hear the news that our dear Sir Meathead will actually be bringing forth offspring?"
Kel grinned. Neal had been beside himself when he had received the news that his wife was expecting. The whole camp had known in seconds. "We'll be expecting a little Meatball before year's end," she replied looking up the dark haired man.
"That's a good one," laughed Dom, throwing his head back. "Remind me to tell that cousin of mine when I see him."
"You haven't seen him yet?" asked Kel confused, her hands freezing.
"Now what kind of a man would I be if I didn't come and see my girl first?" said Dom as if it were perfectly logical.
"'My girl?'" Kel replied with a raised eyebrow as she rose from her chair. She crossed her arms over her chest as she stood eye to eye with the man having far too much fun at her expense.
"My knight?" offered Dom with a grin, not fazed one iota.
Kel pressed her lips to his. "Much better."
She made to move back, but the tall man clasped her waist. "How about a proper welcome?" he said, his voice husky.
"Dom..." she warned tearing her eyes away from his to eye the mess around her. She'd already lost enough time with her impromptu nap.
"This place isn't going to fall to pieces because you put off things for just a few more minutes Mother," argued Dom exasperatedly. "Now come here."
"I'm your superior you know?" Kel said with an exaggerated air, even as she took a step closer to him and loosely wrapped her arms around his neck. "You can't very well tell me what to do."
"Well, I'll just have to be punished won't I?" replied Dom dutifully, his wriggling eyebrows giving it away. He grinned when the young woman in his arms flushed.
"You're persistent, I'll give you that," she murmured as she leaned in closer.
"Have to be," muttered Dom against her lips. "Else I'd find myself wondering if I have your affections at all."
Kel drew back quickly, a retort on her lips. "I'm not that bad."
Dom laughed as he rose from the desk. "I beg to differ." He backed her against the wall and covered her body with his as she opened her mouth to protest further.
He kissed her solidly.
Finito.
