DISCLAIMER: Do I really need to say it at this point?
I honestly have no idea where this plot bunny came from. Like I said before, I am unbeta'd, so any and all errors are the fault of yours truly. I can't promise how often I'll update this, but I'll try to get a new chapter up at least every couple of weeks.
He looks at the young woman before him, calm, not fazed in the slightest by the fact that she had not only found him but managed to get past every bodyguard and defense his current dwelling place had to offer. "I don't believe we've had the pleasure of meeting? I'm not the kind of man who forgets a face."
She sneers, tossing her short dark hair. "Cut the crap. I'm not here to exchange idle banter. I came because I need information and you're the person I need to talk to."
"Your spirit does you credit," he answers with only a slight twitch of one eyebrow. "And yet I find myself curious as to why you think I will divulge whatever it is you came here seeking."
Her ice-blue eyes flash angrily, turning for a split second to pure gold. "If you don't, I'll kick the crap out of you. And I promise that no matter how old or powerful you are, I will win."
He was almost liking this girl, the man thinks idly, fingering the head of his cane. "Overconfidence and rudeness are both weaknesses and unbecoming of a young woman, but I must admit you've piqued my curiosity. Tell me why you came here." He turns his back to her and gazes out the window. He does not fear her; if she kills him, her journey will have been a wasted effort. The girl may be brash, but he can tell she is far from foolish.
When she speaks, her voice is carefully controlled. "I need to know about the Lazarus Pit. Where it is…and how to work it."
"The Lazarus Pit," he repeats thoughtfully, turning back to face her. "Not many even know it exists, let alone what its powers are. You become more of an enigma every minute, my young friend."
She hisses, short and sharp. "I am not your buddy, and we're not going to waste time playing Guess Who. The funeral was a week ago; I need the body for this, don't I?"
"Indeed." He pauses, contemplating. The last time someone other than himself used the Pit, the results were….less than ideal. Although she does not know it, he is quite aware of this girl's identity—what her parentage is and the powers she herself possesses. Who it is that she so desperately wants to bring back he has no idea and no reason to care, but it's quite possible that he may be able to use the information to his advantage. Besides, his debt to her father is technically still outstanding, seeing as his attempt to repay was, again, less than ideal. "Very well. But be aware that what you think you want may turn out to be different than you imagined."
Helena Kyle smiles bitterly. "Believe me, after I do this, I won't be sticking around to see how it turns out."
Ra's al Ghoul nods. "Then listen carefully."
