Rebekah stared at her older brother, pleading with her eyes to forget the Forbes girl. They had made a promise, Always and Forever. He was throwing away his sisters love for a girl who didn't even care about him. As Rebekah stood there, eyes prickling with unshed tears, she watched her brother slowly walk away from her. She had had her heart broken many times, but her brother had always put Rebekah first. Now he was leaving her for a baby vampire. She couldn't wrap her pretty little head around it. Her brother had never loved, but now Rebekah found herself second place to a naïve little girl and she didn't like it.

Caroline

"I don't know what to say, I think I love him".

Elena couldn't believe it, her best friend loved Klaus. Caroline had feelings other than hate for the man who had single handedly destroyed her life. He had killed her aunt jenna, killed her for crying out loud. How could Caroline be so selfish, after everything he had put Elena through.

"He ruined my life, Caroline. How could you love him?"

Caroline cringed as her best friend started screaming at her. She knew she deserved some anger, but Elena didn't get it. You cant control who you love.

"How do you think I felt when you declared your love for Damon. He fed from me, abused me, raped me, made me his little toy and then compelled me to forget everything. He really hurt me and you never once asked how I felt about it."

"That's completely different!", the doppelganger screamed "Klaus ruined my life, Caroline. He kills people for fun!"

Caroline scoffed, "Like Damon is such a saint. You're a hypocrite Elena."

Caroline had expected to feel more sadness at the loss of her friend but she felt surprisingly calm.

"Listen, I didn't come here to fight. I just thought you should know."

"Why, why Klaus. Why not Tyler or Stefan or even Matt? Why him."

Caroline figured Elena deserved this tiny piece of information, she might as well tell the truth.

"I desperately needed someone, and he was the one that was there for me. He was there when I needed someone, Elena. You can understand that."

She could, but she thought Caroline was fine. She admits, she hadn't asked how she had been going after Tyler had left her and she had gotten tortured again, but she was always the strong one.

"But that's you, Caroline. You've always been the strong one."

Caroline laughed a painfully sad laugh. "We both know I'm not that strong."

If things had only turned out different. If he hadn't ruined their lives, if they weren't vampires, if he wasn't evil, if she didn't love him. But she did, and she couldn't be friends with people who hated him so much.

"This is goodbye, Elena. I'll always remember you guys."

As Caroline walked away, Elena allowed her tears to fall but she didn't' try to stop her. She didn't call Caroline's name, beg for her to stay or even try to understand her love for him. She just let her go.

As Caroline and Klaus drove away from Mystic Falls in his convertible, she smiled as she looked at him. She felt a weight being lifted from her shoulders as they passed the Mystic Falls sign. He turned to looked at her and a smile grew on his face. Not a grin, or one of his famous smirks. A genuine smile. As Caroline closed her eyes, the wind blowing through her she felt safe. She had found her home, and it was with him.
