Hurts Like Heaven

The erratic drumming of my heart ensued at the sight of her.
My mouth ran dry at the sight of her caramel hair that descended just below her shoulders. Her shoulders were hunched and I watched the tip of her tongue press against the insides of her cheek as her brows furrowed in concentration. The constant rapping of her pencil on the mahogany table lulled me into a deep reverie.
A groan dispelled me from my train of thought and I immediately sat upright in alarm.
"What's wrong?" I murmured.
She exhaled shakily and rubbed her swollen eyes, a telltale sign of stress. I walked towards her and caressed her shoulder briefly.
"It's just not coming to me, Shiki. I need to help Mikan, but how? I mean- what if she doesn't want to see me anymore? She'd be insane to run back into my arms if she finds out-"
"If she finds out that your her mother? The very person who has been shielding her all this time?" I interrupted.
"You know she won't see it that way. She's stubborn, like Izumi."
The stark affection manifest in her voice for the aforementioned man throttled my heart and suddenly, the blood pumping in and out of my heart turned acidic and I felt my veins shriveling.
She was blind. She had no clue at all. She was oblivious to my state as a living corpse. A living corpse that continued to use his heart as a weapon. Everything I had achieved up until now is attributed to the woman in front of me. Carelessly, I had used my heart as a weapon to soldier on but I was weak.
Weakweakweak.
I rubbed her arm, almost shyly, and felt my heartstrings tug at the sight of her soft, sad smile.
"Thank you, Shiki."
I closed my eyes and swallowed thickly. I realised that combating with my heart had hurt, but it had hurt like heaven.
Well. That was terrible. Please excuse any grammatical errors as I did very little editing. You might be able to see the slight resemblance with Antithesis, another one-shot of Shiki and Yuka. I just wanted to dedicate this one-shot to Annabelle Rae for her encouraging words and bright spirit :) Anyway, the story was inspired by the one and only - COLDPLAY! Check out their single, Hurt Like Heaven :) Anyway I attended their concert a few weeks ago and it was flippin' amazing! It was one of the best nights of my life that I will cherish and I hope you guys watch some of their live performances on Youtube or something. You'll be blown away. Seriously.
