Chapter 1
"I'm hungry," said Dean as he unlocked the door of room no. 201 of Blue River Motel.
"Dude, when are you not hungry?" Sam chuckled, entering the room and dropping their bags on the floor.
Dean took out two bottles of beer, cracked them open and passed one to Sam. "What do you want for dinner?"
"Salad," Sam replied. Dean rolled his eyes and ordered a salad for Sam and meatballs for himself.
When their dinner arrived they set the table and sat down to have a nice quiet meal after a long and what seemed to be a never ending hunt for the ghost of a stalker girl. She stalked guys and killed them and had died while stalking a guy- so her fetish got carried on to her afterlife. She had been after this guy named Edmund who was still alive thanks to the Winchesters.
Since Sam had graduated from school two months ago Dean had been pulling him in one hunt after the other hoping to… to change his mind about college? Well yeah, something like that. Sam hadn't brought up college again after that one time a few months ago. Dean at least hoped if nobody said it, it wouldn't happen. But if Sam was going he would be leaving soon like, real soon.
His chain of thoughts was broken by the sound of his ringtone, Back in Black. His face lit up with a million dollar smile on seeing the caller Id. "Hey Dad!" His joy was infectious enough to make Sam smile.
"Yes Sir," Dean replied, his smile getting replaced by a more sober expression while Sam's mouth turned into a thin line. John had called them after four weeks and instead of asking about their well being as a father, he was asking questions like a drill sergeant.
"Minneapolis, huh? That's like four hours from here. We can drive there and join you." Sam's eyebrows went up and he shook his head in disagreement. Dean just gestured him to shut up!
"I know Sir you can handle it by yourself, but just hear me out. We can regroup there before we go our different ways. Is that okay?" Dean's voice was almost pleading. He knew the other two wanted to protest. And they could obviously tell what Dean was trying to do- getting them together before Sam left- so he expected to be shot down. But surprisingly his dad agreed.
"All right then see ya tomorrow, Dad." Surprise- and joy- were obvious in his voice as he hung up. Time to fight the second dragon.
"What the hell Dean!" Sam yelled.
"Look Dad said it didn't look like too big of a case, he was in the neighborhood so he's looking into it. We'll just meet up with him and take care of it."
"But Dean…"
"Look man I know you're not up for this. I know you and Dad have your differences. But we haven't met him in so long. Please Sammy do this for me?"
Sam sighed. "All right. And its Sam by the way not Sammy!"
Dean smiled, then rolled his eyes and crashed on his bed with a yawn, tired.
Sam stayed up for another hour or so, looking up about the case. Four kids aged seven-eight had been murdered in one night. Only one witness- a five year old. Said another kid did it. Sam shook his head and decided to go to sleep.
He would need his energy to go through the next few days…
