A/N POST ROTS. Obi-Wan thinks about the loss and deception of his padawan, friend, and the closest thing he had to family. Set after Obi-Wan gives Luke to the Lars. Not a song-fic, just based off the song. Please review if you read the story. Angsty, but I figured I should write it. SHORT ONE-SHOT

It was all over for Anakin Skywalker.

Anakin had been everything to him. He'd been his padawan, his best friend, and ultimately the closest thing Obi-Wan had had to either a son or brother.

Anakin was gone now, because of him, Obi-Wan Kenobi. He had not even had the decency to kill him, he let him "die" a slow painful death...only to somehow survive so that he may live in pain the rest of his days.

Anakin had been on the edge...getting nearer and nearer to the dreadful fall for so long, but yet when it came down to the very last he had tumbled, all because he thought he was saving the one he loved.

While the others critized Anakin for his easily unleashed anger, and the malice and rage that must have led the young man to the darkside, Obi-Wan realized the truth.

The reason for Anakin's turning was not his hate, but his fulfilling, wholesome love.

Love was supposed to be the opposite of hate...but was it possible that for someone who loves so much to hate something even more?

Obi-Wan sighed.

He knows what runs through Anakin's blood, pure love. Since the day he'd met the boy he had found it impossible to notice his padawan's unconditional love for anyone or anything the boy had come in contact with.

Love had been Ani's downfall, that much was certain.

While trying to destroy Anakin in fear of his hate, Obi-Wan and even Yoda had failed to notice that Anakin did not really hate anymore than the rest of them, he feared losing the things that he loved.

The lava on Mustafar had not completely killed his padawan; it had only burned away the love so that only hate was left.

Qui-Gon would have said that no one was to blame, that it was his destiny, but Obi-Wan knew better, or thought so.

There were all too many to blame, but the main three that were at fault for this catastrophe were Palpatine, Anakin, and himself, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

In a way he had sped up the process of Anakin's turning, burning the Anakin he knew to nothing but a shell of the man he had once been.

None of it mattered now, however for it was all over for Anakin Skywalker...in his place stood the hulking, deformed Sith lord, Darth Vader.

Obi-Wan's running from his former apprentice now...looking behind his shoulder making sure the Empire isn't following him. He still tries to forget that Vader IS Anakin. He half believes his own lie of how Vader had killed Anakin until he reminds himself of the truth.

He murdered Anakin Skywalker.

Obi-Wan Kenobi-Jedi Knight murdered his best friend.

His own "brother"died by his hand.

Somehow it still gets under his skin though that Anakin had given in to the dark side because the part of Kenobi that is not blaming himself places guilt on everyone else especially Anakin himself.

Anakin was dead inside now, no matter who or why...he just was, and Obi-Wan had to admit this fact no matter how much it hurt.

It IS all over for his best friend, his only family, Anakin Skywalker.
