I watched as Sherlock craned his long neck over the garden wall. Sherlock had become bored at 221b and had taken it upon himself to use my personal life as a form of entertainment. I leant against the bricks with a sigh of despair.
'Have you finished spying on my new girlfriend yet?' I asked impatiently. I had only an hour before told Sherlock that I had begun dating a new girl, Laura, and how I very much liked her. Sherlock then decided he wanted to see what she was like. But not in the normal way! Oh no! He decided to spy on her.
'John, do you want to date a homicidal maniac?' Sherlock asked lowering his gaze to me.
'Of course I don't, but…'
'Well, then I suggest you let me finish what I am doing and shut up!' Sherlock growled.
I shook my head 'any other best friend would have a pint with them and tell me what they thought of her afterwards, but not you! Not Sherlock Holmes. You have to go and spy on her!'
'Molly' Sherlock simply replied. I looked a taken aback for a few seconds before Sherlock explained himself 'she ended up dating a gay terrorist!'
'Yeah, but…' I began.
'But what, John? "She's different!" or "she isn't some crazy bomber!"' Sherlock hissed mimicking me 'that is what everyone says. And do you know what happens to them?'
'They have healthy and sustainable relationships?' I laughed.
'No' Sherlock replied 'they end up dead.'
'Okay, I give up' I moaned 'what do you think?'
Sherlock looked at me with a glint in his eye. The glint that comes along when he knows something nobody else does 'well, apart from the obvious floors. She and her family don't seem to be crazy or deranged. However, I am not letting her go that easy. You are going to arrange diner for the three of us tonight. Then I will decide.'
'You said the obvious' I said 'what are the obvious'?'
'She is married and his probably using to have an affair with so she can get to her husband who blatantly doesn't show her any sort of passion anymore. And when you were so kind to offer her a coffee with your naivety she took it upon herself to find herself someone who genuinely liked her. She has two children, possible twins and doesn't get along with the in-laws.'
I stood agape for a few moments 'and this doesn't qualify as shifty- the fact that she is using me for an affair?'
'I thought you already knew, John' Sherlock said 'surly you noticed the wedding ring on her finger?'
I thought for a second 'no!' I was almost yelling now 'because I'm not you! Am I?'
'Does that mean you aren't going to date her anymore?' Sherlock asked turning on his feat to leave.
'No, I'm not' I said.
'See, what would you do without me?' Sherlock said with a broad grin meeting his face.
'I'd probably have a normal life' I said still angry with myself.
'Normal is boring' Sherlock said.
'Sherlock, anything which doesn't involve murder, kidnapping, forensic examination or scandalous relationships is boring to you!'
