I do not own Pokemon.
Red blew a big pink bubble, retracting it in the same moment.
Green hadn't chewed bubble gum ever since it lost it's childhood flavor.
Bubble gum was how they had become friends.
.
Green had finally gathered the courage to approach the boy with the crimson eyes; a piece of bubblegum in hand as an offer of friendship. Green had been watching the boy make a pikachu sculpture out of mud for quite a while now, debating on how to approach him.
Finally, timidly, he walked up and offered, "That's a nice pikachu. It looks so real."
The boy's mouth twitched, as if to smile, but he didn't say a word.
"What's your name?" Green prodded.
"Red." The boy whispered.
"I'm Green." He stated proudly, sitting down next to Red.
Red nodded in reply and went back to his pikachu.
They sat in what Green felt to be an uncomfortable silence, until Green collected enough courage to speak again.
"Do you... do you want a piece of gum?" Green questioned shakily, holding it out.
Red quickly grabbed it and examined it before looking at Green with piercing eyes, simply stating:
"You're nervous."
It shocked Green that Red had come to this conclusion, but in retrospect, it was probably because the bubble gum was squishy from being in his clammy hands.
But as Red's brilliant mahogany eyes gazed at Green, all Green could muster was one simple word uttered in fascination:
"Pretty." Green reached out as if to touch Red's face, but his hand fell back to his side.
"W-what?" Red stuttered.
"Your eyes." Green explained in embarrassment, his face flushing the same color as Red's beautiful orbs.
"They don't scare you?" He twiddled with his thumbs, seeming just as embarrassed.
"No." Green attempted to gain back his confidence, but he lost his already loose grip on it as Red murmured,
"You have pretty eyes, too."
.
Someone should have taken a picture, really.
Of the innocent blushing face splattered with mud and being hid behind raven colored locks.
Of Green's laugh being reflected by the sunshine. His emerald eyes that turned to jade and his chocolate hair
splayed messily on the grass as the younger boy pinned him down.
The priceless look on said younger boy's face as Green's hand brushed his cheek affectionately.
Yes, someone should have taken pictures.
But no one did and memories were lost.
Yet when Green found his rival chewing bubble gum, the faint feeling came over him that they had been friends all along.
