Ok small background on this small piece; I am in a poetry class and I procrastinated until the last minute to write a poem for my week. I was playing Assassin's Creed (shockers) for a majority of my few free weekends that I have, and this idea about Malik reflecting on the death of his brother Kadar popped into my head when I had to go into somewhat great detail about the background of events prior to where I was in the game to my roommate. After finishing the assignment I was on I wrote this and handed it in to the class, where it was then met by hipster reviews telling me it was "too wordy" "feels a bit tired" and "depressing" and my favorite "what happened?". A few people liked the poem and for some reason I decided to share it on the site. Don't know why, because…what the hell why not. Don't be shy to leave comments and reviews (my poetry class is not). Anyway I hope you guys enjoy the piece!

Right Beside Me

I feel you here

Standing right beside me

But you couldn't be

Any further away

The distance between

You and I

Is one that cannot be

Amended with ease

Tears still fall

Down upon my face

For the memory of your name

And I weakly smile

Remembering your face

But I come undone

As I'm reminded of that day

Nights are filled

With mourning and regret

I can hear your voice

I witnessed your pain

And watched your last breath

As it faded away

The guilt that I bear

It eats me alive

I held your hand

We said our goodbyes

There's no comfort

To be found

As torment takes its hold

And I suffer alone

If I could I would

Turn back the time

Retrace every step

Every word

And every moment

That led to your demise

And I would change it all

Just to have you

Here with me now

My only request

Is one that is denied

I wish it were me

You were too young

It was my fault

That your life came to an end

Forgiveness is something

I don't deserve

But I still pray

That my sin can be atoned

Can I live this life

Without you by my side

I'll try to move on

I'll shoulder the blame

I'll live my life for you

Until my time is done

And I'll hold onto the hope

That I'll be granted the chance

To see you again

Until then

I'll stand here alone

With thoughts turning back

To a time and a place

Where you still live

Back to a memory

Where I can see you

Standing right beside me
