Author's Note: Welcome all to Entity O' Spite's one-shot collection, labeled 'Puppy Anecdotes' (because all the good names were taken). I've actually wanted to do this alongside Marshall's Lament when I was in the early development of that, but never got around to it. This is basically just a story where each chapter is a one-shot if you're unfamiliar with the concept. The stories can contain content on romances, mundane stories about the team, random lighthearted comedy, or about citizens of Adventure Bay, and possibly some Oc's submitted by you guys. I'll except Oc's only when I ask for them in a post author's note at the end of the chapter. Even then it's only a possibility.
Make note that these stories are just for shi*s and giggles. These aren't meant to be story heavy. As seen with this chapter here, this isn't meant to be taken remotely seriously. All running stories on my profile are story intensive and this is an outlet for me to do whatever I like. This chapter especially is quite random and has a lot of 'jokes' (depending if you find them funny or not) thrown in. I don't know, I think it's okay.
CONSPIRACIES
It was late morning, and Marshall was walking by with a box of old toys from his pup-house. He was planning to put them in storage to make room for some new toys Ryder was getting for all of them soon. Marshall was what some would call a hoarder. He'd keep anything, and everything if it meant something to him. Somewhere in the box was an old small blanket he's had since he was two. Another was a baby tooth from when he bit on a bone too hard, and so on and so forth. Seeing his 'junk' problem, Marshall finally decided to take his old things in storage so he could at least keep the memories.
Marshall pushed the call button for the elevator to go to the basement and waited for it to come. At the sound of a ding the elevator began to rise from the bottom of the shaft, but inside it was a pup.
"Marshall! Marshall!" Rocky yelled coming out of the basement.
"Ahh!" Marshall said falling over, knocking over his box belongings. He looked up and recollected his thoughts. "Rocky?! What the heck!" The pups eyes were red, with dark spots around them, and his fur was all ruffled up and stiff. "Are you okay? You don't look so hot."
"Yes! In fact, I've figured it all out," Rocky replied in a raspy voice.
"You found my chew toy? Cool!"
"No, even better."
"Umm, the password to Ryder's computer."
"Not, not that!...Also, his password is KatieBoo1296."
"Is that with a capital 'K' or lower case?"
"Marshall!"
"All right, all right, forget I asked. Anyways, what did you find?"
"I'm glad you asked, Marshall!" Rocky said with a big smile. He grabbed Marshall by the collar and pulled him into the elevator.
"Wooahh!" Marshall yelled as he hit the back wall of the elevator. "Sheesh, can we at least make this a one-way trip, and get my stuff." He gathered all the items back in his box and put it in the elevator with him. "So what's your important 'breakthrough'. "
"Well my dalmatian pal," Rocky started, pushing the elevator button to go down. "After 37 hours of no sleep, and plenty of caffeine, I've discovered the PAW Patrol's biggest secret. So secret, in fact, it was kept from its own members."
"...Okay, may I ask, what loony bus drove you down nutjob alley, and all the way to cuckoo town," Marshall said gesturing his paw in circles next to his head.
"Well, 4 days ago I was down here," Rocky said, as the elevator stopped. They stepped out and continued the conversation. The room was lit dimly, and it was clear with the dust and cobwebs people didn't come down here often. "I was looking for extra bins to recycle things in so I could save more trips to the center. At the very back of the basement, under a lot of junk and old boxes and bags, I found a suitcase with Ryder's name engraved on the front." Rocky led Marshall to where the case was. Currently, it was next to a giant board, that had pictures and documents, held up by thumbtacks, and connected by an assortment color of strings. An overhead light was the only thing that kept it lit.
"What's all this?" Marshall asked.
"This is my workstation. I found one clue that led to another which ultimately led me to a gigantic secret."
"So, a conspiracy board?"
"I prefer the term research and analysis table."
Marshall sighed in annoyance. "Anyway, what was in the suitcase? "
"Well, I didn't start until a day later, when it came across my mind again. I looked at the suitcase and it was locked by a number lock. I used my hammer to break it opened. In it, I found a single picture."
"Wait! You mean to tell me you figured out all of this," Marshall said pointing to the board, "from a single picture!"
"Yes! What's even more interesting is what was on the picture. It was, a picture of us!" Rocky said as thunder began to sound.
"Ahh!" Marshall said jumping a little. "Where is the thunder coming from? It's not even raining!" Marshall looked at Rocky as he pushed a button on a stereo and kicked it out of sight, behind some boxes. "After we're done I need to get you a girlfriend. You obviously have too much time on your hands."
"Nevermind all that. What separates this picture from others is the fact that its of us. Ryder has many other pictures of us, so why keep this one under lock and key. Curious, I analyzed the picture and I saw that Ryder looked, suspicious, in it. His expression seems to be hiding something and his eyes were dead set looking to the right. I took this information and put the picture back where I found it. With the direction of his eyes, he was looking at the other side of the room."
Walking from one corner of the room to another, the stopped at a blue wooden dog house. "What, Chase's old dog house. What's so special about this?"
"It's placement. Why here?"
"Because when the PAW Patrol was formed Ryder and Chase didn't need this so the put it down here."
"No, not that placement. It's orientation. It's placed at a 48-degree angle from the wall specifically. And if you look at here." Rocky pointed near the top of the front face of the house. Right above the doorway was a sun, cut out to where you can see in the doghouse. "If you see this incision, it isn't directed straight. It was cut at a downwards angel into the doghouse."
"...and?"
"And this!" Rocky took a flashlight light from a desk and turned it on. He shined it through the sun-shaped hole and the light bounced off a metallic object sitting inside. The light went out the door of the house and shined on the wall. On the wall, where the light shone, was a giant version of the PAW Patrol logo, but with different colors than the modern one. Under it, was the name 'Ryder'.
"The old PAW Patrol logo. What about it?"
"Well you see, Marshall, apart from you, Chase and Ryder none of us have seen this unless there came down here. So then I began to think. What does this alteration of the logo mean? Little did I know, next to the logo, was about bookcase. And in it, was a book about hexadecimal color codes!"
"...hexa-what-codes."
"Well, it's elementary, my dear Marshall. Hexadecimal color codes are a series of 6 numbers and letters that take the R.G.B. value of an existing color. For example, the color black's hexadecimal code is 000000, because it doesn't consist of any red, green, or blue."
"Okay, so how do these...color codes help lead to our 'biggest secret'."
"Well, they are a message."
"And tell me, how did you make a message out of random mumbo-jumbo?"
"Well, under the logo is Ryder's name. Ryder has 5 letters in his name. Therefore the fifth character of the color code in the olden logo made a message. And what I did for the numbers, I just took that number's corresponding place in the alphabet. The clever bit is that the colors in the book are slightly different than the ones on the logo, and I figured out why. We're dogs! Since we see colors that are more washed out than humans it's more difficult for us to determine the colors in reference to the book. The colors in the book are what humans normally would see if we look at them, and the ones on the logo are actual colors, that we would normally see. With that tidbit of informed we know that it's trying to be hidden from us. So I had to figure out how to determine the actual colors on the logo, and the tampered ones in the book and match them. After I got them I had my letters. The message unscrambled, with all the colors in this logo, says this,"
"A sphere that rolls so perfectly. That unlocks a honey, for a craving bee. It shall be kept away at all times, where we all look, from beyond, the behind. For if composure is lost, here is the key to the lock."
"Wait, you got all that from a couple of colors," Marshall said scratching his head.
"Different shades of colors. Anyway TL;DR one thing after another led me to this picture." Rocky and Marshall were lead to a giant picture of Ryder's face surrounded by a golden frame.
"Rocky, by any chance you're looking too far into this."
"Nope. No way. I'm this close to figuring it out," he said proudly.
"Wait, I thought you figured that all out already." Rocky let out a nervous chuckle.
"Well you see, I almost figured it all out. I just came up to get some help, and you were the first I saw."
"Figures. Well, what do you need help with?"
"The meaning of this darn riddle! I've analyzed it to where something spherical is supposed to go somewhere on this painting. I've tried to remove it all together, but I can't get it to budge."
"...where we all look from behind...Wait, maybe this object is supposed to go into to the eye. 'Where we all look!' " Marshall looked up at the painting and saw a hole that was missing in one of the eyes.
"That's it, Marshall! You're a genius. The only problem is we don't have a sphere of that size."
Marshall eyed the hole opening for a while. He backed up to get a better look at the painting when he tripped over the box he brought down. "Marshall are you okay!"
"Yeah, I'm good," Marshall said on his back. A worn out tennis ball then rolled next to his head, which gave him an idea. "Rocky stand next to the painting."
"...okay," Rocky said as he did what Marshall asked. Marshall grabbed the ball in his mouth and stood on top of Rocky. Next he began to stand on his hind legs. "Ow, Marshall! What are you doing." He put the ball down the eye hole and it went down with ease. Marshall jumped off his back. Rocky got up as he saw the painting being to rise. "Hey its working," Marshall said standing next to the mix.
"Marshall, you're a genius!" The painting began to rise further as it revealed a pedestal. Once it was fully uncovered an item laid atop the pedestal. Rocky and Marshall stood on thier back legs to see what it was. They peered up on the pedestal and saw,
"...a box of German chocolates...," Rocky said raising an eyebrow.
"Wait, you mean that Ryder tried to hide a box of CHOCOLATES from DOGS!"
"What's so special about them?" Rocky said picking the box up examining it.
"Rocky...you drug me down to this dusty and poor lit basement for an hour to figure out something you didn't even know...for the end result to be something, that can kill us." Rocky began to slowly stalk away to the elevator. Marshall quickly turned around with the intent of murder in his eyes. "...Rocky," he said through his gritted teeth.
"Hey, I looked at the box and it turns out they're dog safe," Rocky smiled sheepishly, lowering his ears.
Marshall then began to growl. "ROCKY!" Rocky managed to break for the elevator without Marshall getting on. "WAIT FOR THAT ELEVATOR TO COME BACK DOWN AND I SWEAR YOU'LL BE SIX FEET UNDER BY THE END OF THE DAY!" Marshall yelled as the elevator rose.
At the top Rocky saw Chase at the elevator entrance. Rocky got out panting.
"What's all the commotion about?" Chase asked.
"Oh, nothing. Hey, want some chocolates?" Rocky asked giving the box to Chase. "You goin' up?"
"Yeah?" Chase said looking at the chocolate box.
"Great, buddy take as long as you need. For my sake never leave the elevator," Rocky said smiling pushing Chase in the elevator. He hit the up button and the elevator rose while Rocky ran as fast as he could for the front door.
Post-Author's Note: As I said, definitely not meant to be taken seriously. The only reason I'm doing this is that I'm having an actual blast writing these. I honestly don't care if no one reads this, I'll still update this. I feel this is where I can shine. The next thing will be K9 Academy and I'll push for some chapters of Betrayal this week.
