Riku Kyuuketsuki walked over to a small kitchen counter, picking up a stuffed black and purple backpack. She slung the hefty item over her petite shoulder, walking silently to a door in a short hall, turning the creaky handle and pushing it open slowly. She smiled slightly seeing a woman that looked identical to her, lying on her side with a pillow in her arms, the covers pooled around her waist. She slowly walked to the side of the bed, leaning over and kissing the older woman's cheek, pulling the silky white sheets over her shoulders and turning the bedside lamp off. Pacing out of the room and shutting the door behind her with a click, she picked up a large beach-type bag off a chair by a steel door, gaudy locks and other security devices on it. Her hand lifted to slide the chain-latch off, going down the row and turning the bolts, before turning the knob and pulling it open. She slipped her hand into the pocket of her school uniform skirt, pulling out a ring of keys while she pulled the door closed, turning and locking all the locks back.
Riku walked down the carpeted hall, her hands gripping the straps to her bag. A gentle sigh passed her lips as she opened another door to the set of stairs that opened to a large parking lot, scattered cars around it, all of them vacant for the time being. It was still dark out, as it was the middle of winter, the sun didn't come out till she had been in school already a half hour. She snuggled a bit more into her black, worn looking coat, a shiver running through her as a bitter cold passed her. This cold was unusual, it wasn't winter cold, it was almost instantly numbing.
Turning to look behind her, she heard footsteps ringing through the vacant lot, seeing nothing behind her, but feeling the bitter cold breeze once again. She shook her head, looking forward and walking with a bit more speed. "Get a hold of yourself..." She whispered nearly inaudibly as she passed a alley, something bright red catching her glance as she froze in her spot, walking a step back and looking down the alley. "Nothing..." She whispered, shaking her head once more. "Ridiculous..." Continuing to walk, she broke into a run, needing to get to school as fast as she could.
A figure stood in the alley, bright red eyes piercing through the pitch black sky. "It's always darker...before dawn..." A deep melodic voice whispered, a Cheshire smirk being drawn, the smile nothing but pure white teeth between taught lips. Something unusual set in the mouth of this smirk, a pair of glossy white fangs..
