The beginning of the War
Kuzon remembered it all began, the day Fire Lord Sozin declared war on the other nations. He had appeared on the balcony as thousands of citizens gathered below him, pushing and jostling.
He then raised his hands for silence, he gave a long speech about how the Fire Nation was going through a great time of happiness and wealth, things were going smoothly and everyone was happy, the crowd exploded into cheers and applause.
Once the crowd had silenced Sozin continued, he said about how it was time for the Fire Nation to share its greatness with the rest of the world, to expand its empire. Once Sozin had fully explained what he meant, the crowd fell completely silent, shocked into silence. Share their greatness?
But the Four Nations were meant to be just Four Nations, how would the other nations react when Fire Navy ships landed on their shores? What if they fought back, there would be chaos!
Still, a few weeks later, a fleet of Fire Navy ships landed on the Earth Kingdom shores and began their takeover. In the weeks that followed, the Fire Nation managed to conquer much of the small villages and towns. But Sozin had bigger plans and sent hundreds of ships over.
Massive steel warships, landed on the Earth Kingdom's shores and the Fire Nation soldiers began to take over. Anyone who resisted was killed; whole villages were burned down, thousands made homeless.
Then there came the most shocking event, which caused the Earth Kingdom and Water Tribes to declare full scale war against the Fire Nation.
The destruction of the Air Temples, Sozin knew that the only one capable of stopping the Fire Nation was the Avatar. And the Avatar had been born into the Air Nomads. Only a few days later the Fire Nation used the power of a blazing Comet that passed the Earth and launched their assault on the Air Temples.
Starting with the Western Temple, the Fire Nation destroyed the Air Temples and exterminated everything in the Temples, the Air Nomads, the Sky Bison and the flying lemurs were all wiped out.
In one day, the Fire Nation wiped out the entire Air Nomad race, and destroyed all four Air Temples, It was a devastating loss. But still the Avatar was not found, Sozin was furious, somehow the Avatar had eluded him, and he spent the rest of his life searching for the Avatar.
He knew that he was out there somewhere, the Fire Nation's greatest threat, the last Airbender. But he wasn't the last Airbender; Kuzon received word that a large group of Air Nomads had escaped from the Southern Air Temple on their flying bison, they got to the Northern Air Temple and told them.
The Northern Air Temple evacuated all its children and one third of its population. The Airbenders took of with thirty lemurs following behind. They reached safety on a small Earth Kingdom island, too small for the Fire Nation to bother with. They were safe.
Kuzon died fifty years later, at the age of ninety-five. He just hoped that Aang would be okay, the Avatar, his best friend.
