I Miss Your Smile

The cool autumn breeze ruffled his hair as he made his way out of the front door and onto the gravel pathway that led to the meadow behind The Burrow. George brought his hand through his copper locks and sighed, watching his breath as it escaped his mouth and formed a small cloud. The leaves were crunching beneath his feet as his mind wandered to the day this all came to pass.

He was fighting along side his brother when he heard it. He heard an explosion, and the sounds of crumbling rock. Dust was raised in the air and he coughed, looking at the fairly sized hole in the side of the castle. His gaze was brought down to the pile of rubble when he saw a flash of orange underneath the rock. "No. No, no no." Tears stung at his eyes and his heart ached as he bent down and dug through the rubble to uncover the red locks.

His hands were scraped, and they hurt but he couldn't stop. And he didn't, at least not until he found the body of his twin, battered and bruised, bloody and cold. George cradled the weak form in his arms as he rocked it slowly. "It's okay Fred, just wake up. Everything will be okay; you just need to wake up." Tears escaped his eyes and fell into the matted hair beneath his chin. "Please Fred, I need you."

His heart tightened painfully at the memory, biting his lip to stop from crying as he arrived at the grave of his twin brother.

Fred Weasley

April 1, 1978 – May 2, 1998

Son, Brother, Twin, Prankster

Mischief Managed

"Hey Freddie." He began, fingers idly tracing the letters of his twin's name. "I miss you. I don't feel complete anymore. It feels like part of was ripped away. Probably because it has been." Tears stung at his brown eyes, but he did nothing to try and get rid of them. "The joke shop is doing okay. I'm running it by myself now; it didn't feel right hiring anyone else. I could never replace you, Freddie."

"Mom misses you a lot. I see her staring at your name on the clock when she thinks nobody is looking. We're all so sad, Freddie. Why'd you have to leave? It's okay. I don't blame you. I brought you something." He pulled a small stone out of his pocket, and placed it on the grave.

"I'll be joining you soon, Freddie. Sometimes it feels like someone is tearing at my heart. I can't handle it anymore. I love you. I wish I would have told you that more often, but It's okay. You know I love you and I know you love me too. I miss you Freddie, I miss you a lot. Goodbye." And with that he stood up, placing his hands in his pocket and making his way back to the Burrow.

On the stone was engraved: 1998, the year 'We' became 'I'
