Helpless

'Percy!' Annabeth waved to Percy, beckoning to him. Percy, the great saviour of Olympus, immediately rushed to his girlfriend, curious what she was up to.

'Have you seen this small comet? It's blue! I really have no idea what substance does it possess…' For a daughter of Athena, not knowing something is really rare. Percy looked away in apparent boredom. Well, that was expected, seeing he had never done well in geology.

'What's so special about a stone, wise girl?' 'Seaweed brain! This isn't a normal stone! It fell from space!' 'Whatever…' Percy was ready to coax Annabeth to leave the stone (comet) to be, so that they can have a moment together before lunch.

All of a sudden, a bright light shone from the skies, and the beam hit the comet, making it shine in a strange blue light. A shadow slowly emerged from the stone, towering over Percy and Annabeth. Annabeth was frozen in terror when the shadow raised its fist like a hammer and started smashing it onto her. Percy was fast to react, and pushed Annabeth out of the way. He braced for the impact, and when it crashed upon him, he gasped in pain, blood flying out of his mouth. The fist had sprouted millions of needles, as if it knew Percy had the Achilles curse. One of the needles had unluckily stabbed into his Achilles heel in the small of his back, and a black liquid had seeped from the needle into him.

Gritting his teeth, Percy took out Riptide and opened the cap, a blade made from Celestial Bronze impaling the shadow. It shuddered, and all of its movements ceased. Only then could Annabeth react. She crawled to Percy, tears spring into her eyes. He was looking at her, blood leaking from his mouth. He was muttering three words over and over, and when Annabeth leaned closer to hear, he was saying 'iloveyou…' Annabeth truly burst into tears this time, knowing that it was her who caused him to be sacrificed.

Percy was having trouble breathing, and Annabeth knew that even the gods' would not be able to save him. She stayed with him, kissing his lips every few seconds, until he was no more.

Proud, smart, arrogant Annabeth had never felt this helpless.
