Hunt
By starsxdreams
I get up from my bed, even though I have not slept. Even though I haven't slept for the past five years...it doesn't bother me, though.
"Edward," I whisper, even though I don't need to. "I'm going on a hunt, I'll be back soon."
He smiles, and his crimson eyes meet mine. "Ok, love, just be careful."
Always am, I think to myself.
...
I run up the rocky and steep mountain quickly, feeling the wind rush through my hair. I feel every bit of rain falling down from the sky, dropping onto my skin, feeling refreshed. I run and run, and never get tired, or have to catch my breath.
Out of the very corner of my eye, I spot my prey that sadly must die to satisfy my thirst. It's a large mountain lion, with a light brown coat, and vicious eyes. It's sharp teeth hang out of its' mouth, and its' jaws look powerful to break me in half. They probably would have to if I were still a human.
But I'm not a human anymore. I'm a vampire, and vampires do one thing to survive.
Hunt.
The mountain lion spots me, and in less than a second, we are both sprinting toward each other. However, it has seen my kind before, and it sudden has a flash of fear in its' eyes. It quickly sprints down the mountain, and two other mountain lions follow it. I sprint after them, though, and quickly catch up.
Hunt, I keep thinking. Hunt, hunt, Bella! It's what you do to survive, to satisfy the burning sensation inside your throat.
Suddenly, the edge of a cliff is near, and the small pack of mountain lions make the brave decision to jump of the edge, knowing they'll land in the water below. Sadly for them, I'm hunting, and not going home still thirsty.
I run of the edge after them, land in the water and notice one of them is stuck between some rocks. I bite down into the fur, and take the sickly sweet blood from the animal. Unfortunately, one of the other mountain lions landed on a rock, didn't survive the fall, and their blood poured out into the water, not making it any good.
The third mountain lion was frantically swimming away, but I swim faster. In two seconds, the blood was drained from the animal, and I had succeeded at my hunt.
...
"Why are you all wet? Are you okay?" Edward rushed over to me.
I smiled. "Yeah. Damn mountain lions decided to jump into the water."
"So was your hunt good?" Edward asked.
"Yeah," I replied. "It was great."
