Sally Jackson waited in the kitchen for her son to come and eat breakfast. It was a Monday morning, meaning Percy would probably try and be as slow as he could. But soon enough, the eight year-old bounced into the room.

"Mom, do I really have to go to school?" Percy whined.

"Yes you do."

"But I don't want to!"

"Percy," Sally threatened.

"Fine." He pouted.

The pout quickly turned into a smile as soon as his breakfast was placed on the table. Blue waffles, blue syrup, and orange juice. The exact same as he had every morning. Sally found it surprising he wasn't sick of the same thing.

Percy dug into the meal, shoving blue waffles into his mouth like his life depended on it. Syrup dripped down his chin, making a sticky mess on the table.

"Percy," Sally said. "If you eat too fast you'll choke yourself."

"Buh te're weawy goob!" Percy replied.

"Don't talk with your mouth full Percy."

"Whateber."

Sally sighed and dumped his empty plates in the sink.

"Come on, you don't want to miss the bus!"

"Actually, I want to miss the bus." Percy replied as he slung his backpack over his shoulder.

Sally smiled and shook her head.

Sally watched as Percy scrambled down the stairs and stumbled towards the bus stop. Some things never changed.

Annabeth was sure that Sally had told her stories of what Percy was like when he was a kid. She was pretty sure the scene she saw in front of her was almost identical to a Monday morning more than a decade ago.

Percy was shoving blue waffles into his mouth, just like he did every day. Annabeth glared at him while syrup dripped onto the table. She watched as Percy finished his fourth waffle.

"If you eat that fast, one day you're going to choke yourself to death you know." She said.

Percy glared at her. "Not funny Annabeth. Only I get to joke about my own death."

"I'm not joking."

"Tat woulb be a wame way to bie."

"What was that?"

Percy swallowed the rest of his waffle. "I said, that would be a lame way to die."

"Exactly, so eat slower."

"Nop lipe I can helb it."

"Swallow before you talk Percy."

"Sorry."

Annabeth glared to make sure he got the message. Percy tried to glare back.

"Now," He said. "As much as I'd like to glare at you some more, I need to get going."

"I don't think your boss would be happy if you were late for work."

"Great, now I'm going to be late!"

"Bye." Annabeth said as Percy rushed out of the door. Shaking her head, she realised something she should have noticed ages ago. As much as Percy had changed, deep inside, he was still the same person. Maybe, deep inside, Annabeth was still the same girl she was before she ran away from home.

Grinning while shaking the thought out of her head, Annabeth stared out of the window. She really loved mornings.
