Chapter 1
"STOP DAD, I'M SORRY!" I yelled at my father, he stopped what he was doing to look at me and laughed.
"You honestly think it's YOUR fault your brother is INCOMPETANT! He can't even make fucking food without making a mess! Now shut up and go clean it up."
I looked at my father with disgust and ran into the kitchen, looking around to see the mess my brother did, Evan was only 7, how in the world would my father expect him to be able to make us food? I was just about done cleaning when i heard a high pitch scream come from the living room, I scurried there and found my dad, Robert, and my mother, Samantha, fighting over something, again. This breaks me inside. Will it ever end, of course not, I have been praying for that ever since Evan was born, not only do I need to worry about my self now, but someone else as well. Evan is the only reason I'm still alive, so I'm grateful my brother was given life. While I was thinking, my brother came in crying.
"I'm sorry Mak, I'll help ya clean up." He said, trying to be brave, though I could see he had trouble moving by the way he was wincing every move he made.
"Don't worry Evan, I'll clean up, go to bed, we have school tomorrow." I stated the obvious to try and make him forget ever wanting to help me. A few minutes later my father came into the kitchen and he rumaged through the drawers, but eventually started swearing his ass off.
"Why can't I find a DAMN knife in this house!"
"Why do you need a knife father...?" I hissed at him.
"It's none of your god damn business slut!" He approached and slapped me. "Now go to your room and possibly die there!"
I swear I heard my brother mutter the words,"I would much rather it if you died.."
Hot tears formed in my eyes as I grabbed my brothers hand and ran out of the house, away from the person we called our father. I didn't know where we were going but my feet were guiding me, it was like they were on auto-pilot. Before I knew it we were in front of my only friends house. Luckily, he lived alone, so Evan and I would be in less danger of being exposed to parental guidance. I knocked on the door, only to see my handsome best friend shirtless and all damp. He saw little beat up Evan and me crying, led us inside and comforted us with steamy hot cocoa.
"Are you gonna tell me what happened in there Mak, or am I going to have to force it out?" Wayne questioned.
"Can you set up Evan in a room first?" I sniffed loudly making Evan snort.
"Sure, wait there for a sec, will ya love?" Wayne told me, looking worried.
"Mhm..."
After a little while Wayne came back into the living room, he plopped down on the couch and cuddled up with me.
"I'm waiting..."
I sighed and brought my knees up to my chin, then I started to explain what had happened at my parents house and he nodded repeatedly.
"You guys can stay here for a while, anyways its not like its really crowded in here..." He stated making me giggle and fall off the couch. "I'm glad you came to see me actually , because I wanted to come by after my shower... I have a surprise for you."
