Chapter 1 - Heart beat
It was right after their match against Inashiro that Eijun was feeling ill. He was in the men washroom washing himself off. He wasn't happy the way things went with the match, he felt bad that he hit a dead ball. He finally got out the washroom. As he headed outside his head started to ache, he held onto the wall as he started to walk back.
"Are you okay?" A voice call out to him. He was startled by the voice, a very familiar voice. Eijun couldn't move his head since the pain was killing him. Eijun notice the white uniform from the side of his eyes. It was one of the Inashiro players.
"Are you okay?" The voice repeated his words but still no reply came from the first year pitcher. Suddenly his vision started to get fuzzy and before he knew it his eyes shut and he fainted but he felt like somebody was carrying him but he didn't have the strength to open his eyes.
When Eijun opened his eyes he realized that he was in his room in the dorm. He couldn't recall how he got back to the dorm. His head was still hurting like before.
"Hey are you okay?" Eijun looked at the door and saw Kuramochi standing there and he was holding a glass of water. Kuramochi walked toward Eijun and handed him the glass of water which Eijun took. Before he could drink the water Kuramochi handed him some medicine that he could take with it.
"You should have said something something if you were feeling unwell." Still there was no word from the brunet. Kuramochi didn't like this sight of Eijun, the senpais were starting to move out and he didn't know what to tell his kouhai. He wasn't the type that knew how to comfort somebody and that somebody like Eijun.
All Kuramochi did was rubbed the boy's head hoping it would do some hope then speaking.
"How long have I been asleep for?" Eijun asked.
"Just a day." Kuramochi said. Kuramochi didn't want to say it but he had to since it was the Inashiro ace that helped their pitcher out. "Go thank Narumiya Mei since he helped you."
"Narumiya Mei." The ace pitcher of the Inashiro.
"Go when you feel a bit better." Kuramochi said. The green-haired boy then walked out the room. Kuramochi stood in front of his door staring at it for a while.
"Kuramochi is Sawamura-chan okay?" Masuko had arrived surprising Kuramochi. Kuramochi was sure that his senpai would still be shopping for some things when he went home.
"He's the same as always and I thought you would still be shopping."
"I didn't need much things." Masuko said.
"Senpai I don't know what to say to him?" Masuko was shocked when Kuramochi said those words. "I don't know how to get him back to normal."
"You're his senpai so try to be patient and I'm sure he will be back to normal."
"I hope so."
Kuramochi then thought of one person that he should talk to.
Miyuki was watching the recent match they had with Inashiro. He felt bad since he was thinking about winning that he didn't think how Eijun was looking at the time. He must have watched the video so many times. He bit his lips in frustration.
"In the last inning he didn't look like himself at all." Why didn't I walk up to mound and talk to him? Was I rushing to win?"
The door opened and Kuramochi appeared but Miyuki kept on staring at the television screen.
"You're already reviewing yesterday's game?" Kuramochi couldn't believe this guy. "It's great and all, but do you have to do it now?" The upperclassmen have already retired, and-
"We weren't good enough."
"Huh?"
"I wasn't and team wasn't."
There was silent between the two and all was the sound of the television playing the baseball match.
"Even with such unbelievable upperclassmen, we couldn't win."
"He's…
Miyuki then went on explaining how they wouldn't have the clean hitter and the ace anymore. And how their dream to go to the national would only be a dream with the team now.
Kuramochi didn't want to believe Miyuki but he was right since they didn't have the upperclassmen anymore. They would have a new team.
After that talk with Kuramochi Miyuki decided go back to his room when he saw Sawamura near the vending machine. The catcher didn't like seeing Eijun like this, he was like this ever since their last match. He also felt bad that he didn't notice that Eijun wasn't feeling so well.
"Why is he out of his room?" Fear went inside Miyuki, he quickly rushed to Eijun hoping nothing bad would happen.
"Sawamura shouldn't you be resting." He spoke surprising the brunet.
"I just wanted to get something to drink since I finished the water that Kuramochi-senpai got me." Miyuki then saw that Eijun was going to faint again so he quickly grabbed the brunet before he fainted.
"I'm sorry." Miyuki said while stroking the boy's head. "I should have noticed it." To be honest Miyuki was pissed that Mei was the one who saved Eijun. He was Eijun's catcher yet didn't notice anything.
Miyuki ended up carrying Eijun back to his room and putting him back to bed. Miyuki thought if he left the boy alone that maybe he would return back to his normal self but who was he kidding with the state the pitcher was in.
"I'm sorry." Miyuki whispered.
The following week.
Mei was in his dorm for some reason he couldn't get the first year southpaw pitcher out of his head. He hoped that the boy was doing okay since the last time he saw him it wasn't a good sight to see.
"Mei I know what you're thinking so why not just visit the Seidou to see how he's doing?"
"Are you crazy?" Mei couldn't believe what Harada had suggested. He couldn't just walk into Seidou just because he wanted to see the southpaw pitcher. But Mei was worried about Eijun but he was sure that the boy was healed by now.
"I'm going for a run." Mei yelled back at Harada and walked out the room.
"That Mei."
Mei started running around the field. Of course the pitcher was still in his mind. Come to think of it he didn't think of the southpaw until he saw him after their match. He felt bad for the boy since he hit a dead ball.
"Why am I feeling bad?"
Mei didn't know why but his legs suddenly moved and went to the direction of Seidou High School. He was in front of the gate of Seidou. He couldn't believe that he actually come here.
"Stupid legs." He yelled.
Mei then heard footsteps coming. The blond hid before anybody could see him. He peeked in and saw the one person he was looking for. It was the southpaw pitcher. He didn't think that he would see the boy this fast.
Mei noticed that the boy looked weak. He was sure that he would be fine by now. He noticed that first year kept on looking at his left leg.
"Is something wrong with him?"
Eijun turned toward Mei's direction the brunet had spotted the boy.
"Narumiya Mei." Eijun spoke.
Mei didn't have a choice now since the brunet had spotted him he had to go out now.
"What are you doing here?"
"I was worried about you." Mei felt shy saying something like this to another male.
"Um...Thank you for helping me last time." Eijun bowed. Mei found the boy different then when he was on the field. He seemed quieter than before.
"Sawamura where are you?" Eijun turned around and saw Miyuki running toward him with a worried look on his face. Miyuki froze when he saw Mei standing there as well.
"Why are you here?" Mei didn't have time to reply when Miyuki dragged the brunet back inside.
"Kazuya that jerk." Mei growled. "He ignored that I was here."
"I told you not to wonder off on your own." Miyuki wasn't happy that Eijun went on his own again. Not to mention that Mei was there, why was he there anyway?
They were in Miyuki's room. Since recently the coach thought it would be better for Miyuki to stay with Eijun and keep an eye on him. Miyuki didn't mind since he loved seeing Eijun.
There was also rumor going on about them dating, but people didn't know if the rumor were true or not.
"I wanted to get some fresh air." Eijun said.
"Next time let me know then I'll come with you." Miyuki then turned to stare at Eijun's left leg. He lifted the leg up to see if any damage happened.
"It doesn't hurt." Eijun said.
There was a knock at the door and Miyuki got up to get it.
"Captain Miyuki the coach is looking for you." Kuramochi joked.
"Stop saying that!" Miyuki looked back at Eijun one last time. "I got it."
"I'll be okay on my own." Eijun smiled.
Both Kuramochi and Miyuki left the room leaving Eijun alone.
Eijun laid on his bed and stared up in the ceiling. He found it strange how much things have changed. The upperclassmen were not here anymore and he was rooming with Miyuki for a while. Eijun didn't practice much since he got injured without him knowing about it.
"I thought I would never get myself hurt."
Then he recalled Mei being here today. He found it funny how he admitted that he wanted to see him. He was being pretty honest, it was funny coming from him.
"Was he worried about me?"
Mei came back to his dorm in a very bad mood. Miyuki had to make him feel this way.
"When did he became such a jerk?"
Mei was glaring at Harada which scared him for once in his left.
"What's eating him?"
Harada had been thinking about who he should put as the new captain and somebody to replace him since he's leaving soon. But when Mei glared at him it was hard for him to think about it.
"Did he go to Seidou?" Harada had a feeling that he did the way the blond was acting.
In the weekend Mei decided to go to the batting center but he didn't expect him to see the southpaw pitcher on his way there.
"Narumiya-senpai."
Mei was just walking down the way to the batting center when he saw a certain brunet looking at a store from the outside. He didn't want to ignore the fact that he saw the brunet but before he said anything it was the pitcher who spotted him back and spoke.
"Are you alone?" Mei asked.
"I was with Haruiichi but he disappeared.
"Don't you mean you got lost?"
"Who's this Haruichi?" Mei asked.
"He's my teammate and classmate." Eijun said.
Mei was wanting to go to the batting center but changed his mind when he saw Sawamura. He decided to hang out with the boy because seeing Eijun alone unsettle him for some reason, like something bad would happen if he left the brunet alone.
"I can't believe Kazuya let him go out." Mei scratched his head.
The two ended up walking around town and going stores. They went to one store that sold baseball things like gloves, bats, uniform and etc. Every time they went inside a store he saw the curious look in Eijun like he was a new born that just found out about something new.
Somehow being near the southpaw pitcher made his heart beat and he didn't like it.
"Stop it!" He tried to calm his heart beat but it kept beating, he was glad only he could hear it.
Mei stared at the brunet and watched all his different expression on his face. Those were the faces that Kazuya was able to see all the time somehow it upset him when thinking about that Kazuya was able see those faces.
"What's wrong with me?"
"Is something the matter?" Eijun asked. Mei didn't realize that he had been speaking out loud this whole time.
"It's nothing." He lied.
Mei must have spent the whole day with Eijun since it was getting late. He didn't know how he manage to do that. He only had plans to go to the batting center but things changed.
Suddenly Eijun's phone rang and the brunet picked it up. It was a text message, he had got from Haruichi.
"Haruiichi already went home." He said putting his phone back in his pocket.
"I'll drop you home." Mei said.
"You don't need to."
"If I don't who knows what kind of trouble you'll get into."
"What does that mean?" Somehow Eijun was annoyed by that comment. But in the end Mei took Eijun to the Seidou dorm, he left before any of the Seidou players spotted him.
When Eijun went inside Miyuki was there with a very scary expression on his face.
"Miyuki-senpai." Eijun tried to smile like nothing was wrong that's when Miyuki smiled but Eijun knew that wasn't really a smile.
"You didn't tell me that you had plan to go out."
"It was sudden." Eijun said. It was true since Eijun wasn't lying and Haruiichi did suddenly asked him to go with him but he didn't think that the two would get separated.
"You got lost. Didn't you?" Eijun didn't like the way he put it.
"I wouldn't say that I just went my own way and so did Haruiichi."
Miyuki couldn't believe this pitcher, he almost gave the catcher a heart attack when he found out from Haruiichi when he came back.
"Anyway let's go inside." He said grabbing the boy's hand and leading in to the dorm room.
