Prologue
Located in the Hoenn region our story begins in Littleroot town with Brendan; a tall, thin young boy with black hair, a white hat, pale skin, and brown eyes. He's wearing a black headband with a red Poké Ball pattern. He sports a long-sleeved red and black sweater and black pants with yellow cuffs at the bottom. His sneakers are also red and black, matching his outfit.
Surrounding Brendan are the walls of a large moving van and taped up cardboard boxes. As Brendan steps out the back of the orange and white van which had a large Poké Ball logo on both sides, he was welcomed to his new home by his mother; a tall slender pale skinned woman with short brown hair and bangs hanging just above her brown eyes. She's wearing a short sleeve red t-shirt with blue jeans and sandals.
"Hey honey how was the ride? Are you excited to be living in our new home?" Brendan's mom said with a smile
"Yeah I can't wait! Do you think I can check out my room now?" the boy asked grinningly.
"I don't see why not, the Pokémovers should be done unpacking all our stuff by now." The mom said as she and her son started walking to the door. The house itself was a two story brick house with a tiled roof and windows all around. As the two were walking they heard yelling coming from inside. The pair slowly opened the door and peered inside to find two young men arguing in the middle of room.
"We were supposed to be done before they got here!" One of them yelled. He was an average sized muscular man with blue eyes, glasses, and a blond military cut hair. The blond man was wearing boots, a white t shirt, a bandana with the moving company's logo on it and denim overalls.
"But we got it done what's the big deal!?" the other man yelled louder, a slightly taller gentleman with tan skin, black eyes, and short black curly hair. The curly haired man was wearing the same uniform and also sported a pair of glasses. The two continued to argue back and forth slowly getting louder until Brendan's mom broke it up.
"Now boys let's just both calm down." Brendan's mom said as she stood between the two. The heated argument immediately came to a halt.
"We are so sorry mam we did not mean for this to get so out of hand." The blonde haired man said as he bowed his head.
"Yeah please don't tell our boss." The tan man said as he also bowed his head. As the two men bowed Brendan saw two red and white balls on the ground.
"Are those your Poké Balls on the floor?" Brendan asked curiously.
"Ha of course, you don't think we can move all this by ourselves do you? We had help." The curly haired man said with a smile as he picked up one of the Poké Balls and threw it upwards. A light shined in the air as a large white, sloth-like, bipedal Pokémon with a tuft of red fur on its forehead landed on the floor while doing two powerful slash attacks.
"This is my partner Vigoroth." He said with a confident grin as he crossed his arms.
"Wow that was so cool!" Brendan said with a smile and a sparkle in his eye.
"Thank you, thank you, hold your applause please." he said with a cocky attitude
"You do way too much" the blonde haired man said with an annoyed face as he called out a muscular grey humanoid-like Pokémon from his Poké Ball.
"Again sorry for bothering you, I'm Kyle and this is my Machoke." Kyle said as his Machoke flexed his muscles.
"The idiot show off over there is Marcellus and his Vigoroth." Kyle said.
"Me and Vigoroth are pleased to make your acquaintance." Marcellus said as the comedic pair bowed.
"You and you're Vigoroth are just adorable, you remind me so much of my husband when he was young." Brendan's mom said with a laugh.
"Thank you mam." Marcellus said while blushing as he scratched the back of his head with a grin and with Vigoroth nudging him with a grin.
"Alright let's get the stuff out of the van before his head explodes." Kyle said while pushing the flustered Marcellus out the door with their Pokémon right behind them.
"Those were some nice young men don't you think Brendan?" she said bending over with a smile.
"Yeah that guys Vigoroth was so cool and the other guy's Machoke looked super strong" the boy said barely holding his excitement.
"Okay, okay go upstairs so those two can finish moving all our stuff in." as she said Brendan was already running upstairs to his room to study more about Pokémon.
The morning went by as the pair of movers and their Pokémon finished up unpacking the truck
"Thank you boys so much." She said.
"No problem mam just doing our job." Kyle said with pride.
"See ya later kid." Marcellus said as he waved goodbye to Brendan. The two feeling accomplished today went inside the company van.
"Where to next?" Marcellus said.
"We gotta drop off the van in Rustboro. Then we'll call it a day." Kyle said; already in the company van.
"Ugh I hate leaving work we have to walk all the way back home to Oldale Town. Can't you just drop me off?" Marcellus grunted and complained as he stepped into the passenger seat.
"Shut up it's not that bad and did you forget Dan and Corey are coming over today to hang out." He stated, annoyed with how childish Marcellus was acting.
"Ha oh yeah my boys, I almost forgot I can't wait to get to Rustboro now!" His mood turned around 180 degrees.
Kyle turned the key and started up the van. He then pressed his foot down on the pedal and the view of the home soon left his view.
After a lengthy drive the two young men were nearing the city of Rustboro
"Wow I am so glad no Pokémon attacked the van today. It makes things so much easier." Marcellus said.
"Whatever you're only saying that cause you don't like to battle, if it wasn't for this job your Vigoroth would still be a Slakoth." Kyle said in a teasing manner.
"I'm sorry that I think Pokémon battles are stupid, but since you love them so much why haven't you been invited to the Frontier yet?" Marcellus said angrily trying to get Kyle just as mad.
"You already know I tried everything!" Kyle shouted with anger
"I'm sorry..." Marceluss replied knowing he had crossed the line.
The two then arrived in Rustboro City, a bustling city with towering buildings by the water, and dropped off the truck soon making their trek back home
As they are walking the view of a large clear blue pond and the outskirts of a forest come into view
"Yo I need to stop and pick some berries and along the way." Marcellus said.
"No, cause all you do is go home and make those stupid Pokéblocks, berries are so useless" Kyle said annoyed. As the two continued arguing they crossed the wooden bridge leading across the pond.
"They are not! Cause not only does Vigoroth love my Pokéblocks the berries alone cure different status ailments; berries are so important in taking care of your Pokémon!" Marcellus said angrily.
"Whatever you do that on your time." Kyle said.
"No I'll do it now." Marcellus said walking towards his usual spot in front of Pretty Petal Flower Shop where he picks berries; while Kyle continued alone to into the Petalburg Woods alone.
Our two friends go on different paths each having its own importance but for now we shall follow Kyle on his walk through Petalburg Woods
The forest now surrounds Kyle as he moves through the thick abundance of trees. Kyle, slightly irritated, makes way down the familiar dirt path taking shortcuts he and Marcellus discovered in the past.
"Ugh that guy is such an idiot now I'm in a bad mood." Kyle muttered to himself, but as he was walking a strange man ran into him from behind. The man had pale skin, black eyes and short black hair. The strangely dressed man was wearing red pants and a hoodie with black horns coming from the hood, with a red sweater underneath and an M in the middle of his outfit.
"Hey watch where you're going!" The strange man shouted.
"You ran into me and I would like an apology." Kyle demanded angrily as he glared at the man. The two stared each other down.
"You don't want to pick a fight with Team Magma" He said as he reached behind his back, but before he could react Kyle had already got Machoke's Poké Ball and called him out.
"I will not be threatened, Machoke, Dynamic Punch!" Kyle without hesitation gave Machoke the command and Machoke's fist began to glow white as he cocked it back, he then lunged towards the strange man, but the man quickly stepped back and called his Mightenya, but Machoke did not slow down and delivered the punch full force to the black canine causing a huge explosion on impact knocking it and the man back.
"Machoke, return." Kyle said as he continued walking.
"Wait!" the man said as he and his Pokémon stood up.
"I'm not done with you, Mightenya, use Crunch!" The man shouted as his Mightenya lunged at full force but rather lunging towards Kyle the Pokémon headed toward and smashed into a sturdy tree.
"What just happened?" The man said confused as his Mightenya laid on the floor unconscious.
"Dynamic Punch confuses a target on impact; in this environment the risk was just too high of it hitting something other than its target." Kyle said with a smirk as he continued walking as nothing had happened.
"This is bad… First Team Aqua beats me to stealing the Devon goods and now I just got beaten by some loser. The boss will not like this." The strange man said as he scurried out of the woods.
Later that evening after an eventful time in the woods Kyle made it to his home in Oldale Town
Kyle now just entering his town walked to his one story house that he shared with Marcellus. Having not run into him on his was back the blond man expected the house to be empty, but when he opened the door he was surprised to see Marcellus already there sitting on couch stuffing his face with pizza.
"How'd you get here so fast?!" Kyle shouted.
"Walda's dad drove me." Marcellus said with his mouth full.
"Who?" Kyle said confused and annoyed cause Marcellus was talking with his mouth full.
"Just a dad of a little girl who thinks me and Vigoroth are hilarious, she lives in Rustboro City." He said as he finished his pizza.
"I'm not even gonna ask." Kyle said as he rubbed his head.
"Anything happened with you?" Marcellus said as he looked in the fridge for something to drink.
"Nothing worth talking about." Kyle said as he finally sat down and turned on the TV.
"Turn up!" A familiar voice to the two was heard as two figures walked in the house. The man who just shouted was a very tall tan man with a hiker build. He had short black hair, brown eyes and a large beard. The bearded man was wearing a long sleeve blue turtle neck with cargo shorts.
"Ha my boy Dan and Corey you two finally made it." Marcellus said happy to see his friends.
"You already know my boy." The other man said, he was a very slim, pale young man with brown eyes and a large and really curly afro. He has glasses but never wears them in the fear of looking lame and he's wearing a red plain t-shirt and blue jeans.
"Someone call the fashion police, Dan you know good and well that you look awful." Kyle laughed.
"Man, don't be jealous you know I look good in my turtleneck 'Mr. Never Takes off His Work Clothes'" Dan smirked with his head held high as Marcellus laughed in the background.
"Hey you can't laugh you don't either" Corey smirked.
"Man I look good in these free clothes and nobody ever talks bad about the Pokémon breeders; they do the same thing." Marcellus said trying to make a point.
Before the four young men could continue arguing the evening news started announcing an event that caught everybody's attention.
*News Cast*
"Ladies and gentlemen it has finally arrived, the thing that will test to see if you are a truly superior trainer, the battle tents!" The announcer said with enthusiasm.
"There are three tents in total spread all across Hoenn. Each with different requirements that push trainers to the edge, and I know what you're thinking why would a trainer want to challenge the tents? Well that's simple; the person to conquer all three will be personally invited to the Battle Frontier by Scott himself. Don't let the peak of Pokémon battles that only the best can enter pass you up so find those tents and get started!" The announcer said with enthusiasm. The announcement went back to the anchors.
"Ugh" Marcellus said putting his head on the table.
"This is it; this is how I'll get to the Battle Frontier!" Kyle shouted at the top of his lungs surprising Corey and Dan.
"Wait, wait, wait, since when do you want to enter the Battle Frontier?" Dan said confused as Marcellus began to cover his ears.
"I may not talk about it but its always been my dream to enter and conquer the Battle Frontier!" Kyle said slowly getting louder.
"Is that why you always want to battle?" Corey said confused.
"No I have my personal reasons. I promise I'll tell you two later but for right now I can't." Kyle said suddenly getting quite
"It's okay I swear we won't pester that much but we have to ask is there anything we can do to help?" Dan said putting his hand on Kyles shoulder in understanding.
"Actually there is if there's a way you two could give me rides to and from islands I can start my journey now." Kyle said looking up with a sparkle in his eye
"I mean I can take you but I kinda have my job with Corey clearing the Rusturf Tunnels, they caved in really bad and it's blocking the path to Verdanturf Town. They need all the help they can get" Dan said as he looked at Corey.
"Fine, fine, I'll do it you can stop begging me. I'll help with the tunnels in place of Dan" Marcellus said as he stood up.
"Really?" They all said in shock.
"Yeah cause I know why he wants to do this and how important it is to him, so I'll help anyway I can." Marcellus said with a smile giving a thumbs up.
"Thank you man, thank you all so much you guys are such good friends." Kyle said holding back his tears.
"Yeah, yeah don't cry you baby I honestly thought you forgot about the whole thing. You haven't talked about it in forever." Marcellus said trying to lighten the mood.
"Ha I always hated your lame insult." Kyle said with a tearful smile.
"Anyway on a serious note you know you have 80 days to do this. That's how much vacation and sick days we have from the job saved up." Marcellus said.
"Yeah man let's get this started as soon as possible I'm pumped!" Dan said jumping up and down.
"I guess me and you are gonna spend some quality time together my boy." Corey jokingly said to Marcellus.
"Alright so the plan is Kyle beats the Battle Frontier with 'Shofar Dan' in 80 days before he gets fired from work. While I take over Dan's job till he gets back; pretty simple." Marcellus laughed.
"What?! 'Shofar Dan'?!" Dan shouted.
"Sounds like a plan." Corey and Kyle said.
"What?!" Dan shouted louder.
"Alright tomorrow I start my journey. First stop, Dewford Town!" Kyle shouted with Marcellus and Corey doing the same.
"I hate you guys so much." Dan laughed as he joined in.
This is how the story of a young man unfolds, what will happen and how far he goes can only be determined by him and the choices he makes along the way.
