The life of a rat isn't always great. They are seen most times as vermin and dirty creatures that carry disease and parasites. Most rats, yes, but not Cheddars. Cheddars used to belong to a student a long, long time ago. He came to Hogwarts his owner's first year, and stayed long after the boy had left. It wasn't that Cheddars was abandoned, but rather he found himself "lost".

One night, in his owner's fifth year, Cheddars decided that he was very hungry, and couldn't wait until morning to eat. He wandered through the castle, unsure of where the kitchen was. He went back and forth down the corridors, thinking to himself how good a big slice of cheese sounded, when suddenly, a door appeared. Not a regular sized door, but a Cheddars sized door. Hesitantly at first, Cheddars pushed open the tiny door, and looked around. His small mouth dropped.

It was a room he had never seen before, but one that he never wanted to leave. Cheese. Everywhere. There were desks, books, brooms, everything in there made of cheese. Cheddars eyes were huge, the size of saucers, as he made his way deeper inside. He sniffed around, making sure it wasn't a trap and, when satisfied that he would be okay, Cheddars dove towards a bed made of cheese, devouring the pillow in less than five bites.

Half an hour later, a very happy- and noticeably bigger round the middle- Cheddars left the cheese room. He waddled down the hallway, stopping every now and then to bite a tiny hole into a curtain or rug, so he would know how to get back to the magical room. He made it back to his owner's dorm room, and collapsed happily into his bed.

Cheddars found that the room was never the same each visit. If he was hungry for crackers, a room full of all sorts of crackers would appear. If he was thirsty, a small, running fountain would be there as well. Cheddars limited his visits to once every couple weeks. He didn't want to get too greedy and plump. But as his owners aged abs became more busy with school and his social life, Cheddars decided that it was time to retire as a pet rat- afterall, he had been this boy's rat, as well as his two older siblings'.

Cheddars made his journey from the dorm room, out to his secret room. This time, he thought of a place where he could live, and not just eat. He wanted a good sized bed, a fountain for drinking and a separate one for bathing. He thought of a good variety of foods that a rat would enjoy; cheese, crackers, nuts, seeds, and berries. Cheddars smiled and pushed open the little door that appeared.

It was everything that a rat could ask for, and Cheddars sighed happily, glad to be home.
