Author's Note – If Chihiro ever went back to the Spirit World, I think this is how it would happen…

Yubaba scowled at the ledger she was writing in, growing more and more irritated with each passing minute at the sound of pattering feet. It was all Haku's fault. If he hadn't barged in her office he wouldn't have gotten the girl all excited. It was pitiful really. She was always here, waiting for him to return. He was always wandering the Spirit World trying to find a way to see her.

"Stop that!" Yubaba finally barked out, the sound of the girl's feet driving her to the brink of insanity. The sounds instantly ceased and Yubaba looked up thinking that she might see a glimpse of her. But no, all she saw were tiny wet footprints marring her beautiful floor.

Yubaba went back to ledger, smirking slightly to herself. She couldn't stand the girl when she was alive, even less so now that she was dead. And yet, for the most part, she left little Chihiro alone. It's not like the girl could do anything. She couldn't touch, couldn't speak, couldn't be seen most of the time. No one but Yubaba even knew she was there, and not even she was cruel enough to tell Haku what had happened to his darling Chihiro.

It was a tragic thing, really. Haku had spent every day since he last saw Chihiro disappear into that tunnel trying to find a way to the human world so that he might be with her, while the ghost of the 11 year old girl haunted the halls and rooms of her bathhouse wondering when her beloved Haku would return.

Sometimes Yubaba wondered if she should tell Haku the truth, just in case he ever found a way to the human world. But in the end she always kept silent. Haku would probably attempt to join little Chihiro in her afterlife, by his own hand no doubt and Yubaba didn't want two ghosts running around her office like a bunch of hoodlums.

Yubaba heard a deep sigh and turned to look. Chihiro was standing at her window, gazing at the sky. Her hair and kimono were soaked and her face had taken on the bloated appearance of a corpse that had spent too much time in water. "It's you he's looking for, you know." Yubaba stated simply, glancing down at her ledger to make sure her numbers were correct. When she looked back up, Chihiro was gone.
