CHAPTER I
Rey was very excited to have received her Hogwarts letter.
Rey had lived her entire life on Jakku, a desert planet in the middle of nowhere, and had lived a sad life on a dog-eat-dog planet. Rey was always alone; her only friend was Finn, a young Stormtrooper she had one day met. She liked Finn, but wasn't sure he felt the same way.
Rey spent her spare time writing fan fiction on her laptop. She was a really big fan of Doctor Who and Lord of the Rings, and would often write crossover stories between the two franchises that she'd post online.
One evening, after a long day of trading in her scrap at Unkar Plutt's in exchange for food portions, she returned home to find an owl dropping a note off at her home. The envelope read:
Rey
The Hole Inside the Downed AT-AT
Jakku
Rey had always suspected she was Force-sensitive; there had been little moments she had felt some brief sensations. But now, at long last, the letter confirmed it. She was being invited to study the Force at Hogwarts, the legendary school of witchcraft on the planet Dagobah.
Rey packed her belongings, which weren't much, and made her way to Platform 9 ¾ at Niima Outpost. There was a large Star Destroyer called the Hogwarts Express. She watched as other young people were getting onboard, waving goodbye to their families. Rey was sad to not have a family, but made her way through. Soon the Star Destroyer took off.
Once in orbit, Rey found an empty compartment with two other girls who were first years. One had blonde hair and was dressed a bit funny while the other had bushy brown hair and was very stern.
"Hello," Rey said shyly, "May I sit with you?"
"Sure you may," the blonde girl said, "My name's Luna and this is Hermione."
Rey sat with them and they each talked a bit about what they knew of Hogwarts.
"I've researched everything there is to know about the school," Hermione boasted, "It was founded by Headmaster Yoda centuries ago. Also, whatever house you get sorted into, make sure it isn't Slytherin. There hasn't been a single Slytherin who didn't become a Sith."
"Nargles are behind it, I suspect," Luna said, "You know, I rather fancy that Rolf Scamander boy sitting two rows ahead of us. What about you, Rey? Do you have a boyfriend?"
"Well, there's this guy named Finn I like, but he's a muggle."
"Are boys all you two ever talk about?" Hermione said, rolling her eyes.
Soon the Star Destroyer landed in Dagobah, which was a large swamp. Rey was surprised to discover how unattractive the planet was.
As the girls were exiting, they heard laughter and two boys were running out of the Star Destroyer.
"Oh, that's Draco Malfoy and Kylo Ren," Hermione said, "They're the two biggest bullies I've seen, causing mischief this entire trip."
Rey looked out and caught a glimpse of Kylo. She had to admit, he was kind of cute, and for some reason, she could smell Wookiee on him. Rey had encountered a few Wookiees once or twice on Jakku, mostly aiding smugglers. She felt a very vague Force perception that Kylo had been partly raised by a Wookiee.
Once inside Hogwarts, the students all sat in the Great Hall, as Headmaster Yoda, a very small creature, greeted them.
"Begun, a new year has. Learn the ways of the Force, you shall. Sorted into their houses now, the first years shall be."
The Sorting Hat was then placed on all of the first years' heads. Rey was relieved to find herself sorted into Gryffindor along with Hermione, while Luna was sorted into Ravenclaw, and both Draco and Kylo were almost immediately sorted into Slytherin.
Over the next few weeks, Rey slowly began to get a feel for life at Hogwarts. Prof. McGonagall taught them the ways of the Force, Prof. JK Rowling taught them potions, and other professors taught them about the current events. They learned of Chancellor Leia Organa at the Ministry of Magic on Coruscant, and of the missing Jedi master Luke Skywalker, who many believed was only a myth.
In her spare time, Rey would cuddle up with her laptop in the Gryffindor common room and continued writing fan fiction online. Dagobah may not have been the most attractive planet, but it did have great Wifi.
Rey was especially good at Defense Against the Darkside class, and her favorite teacher was Prof. Snape, a very kind and jovial man who often spoke of his wife Lily. She asked one of the other teachers, Prof. McGonagall, about him.
"Oh yes, I remember Severus when he was a student here," McGonagall said, "He used to be very moody and anti-social. There was another student, a Gyffindor I'm afraid to admit, named James Potter who bullied him nonstop. Well, one day, during his fifth year, James was ruthlessly harassing Severus, levitating him upside down, when Lily Evans, who was in the same year and one of my favorite students, came to his defense. Severus thanked her politely and the two kissed. From that day onward, Severus was a lot happier with Lily by his side. The two got married the summer after they graduated from Hogwarts, and since then, Prof. Snape has always been such a kind, amiable, and sociable man, all thanks to Lily, the love of his life. And I hear he's going to be a father soon."
This story inspired Rey, making her think that if this Lily could change Snape so much, perhaps she could do the same for Kylo, who come to think of it, even looked a bit like Snape. She had run into Kylo several times since, and while he was always a troublemaker, she did like him.
One day, in potions class, Rey was too busy looking at Kylo that she wasn't really paying attention to the lesson. As her and Hermione got to work making the assignment, Rey noticed an odd scent.
"That's odd, it smells like Wookiee," Rey said to Hermione. Almost immediately, the entire class stopped and stared at her.
"We're making Amortentia," Hermione said, "It's the most powerful love potion in the world and it's rumored to smell differently to each person depending on what attracts them. I smell freshly-mown grass and parchment. You know, normal things."
Rey turned bright red, realizing she had inadvertently made the entire class think she had some weird thing for Wookiees. Of course she knew the real reason she had smelled Wookiee; she would always associate Wookiee with the moment she had first met Kylo.
I guess I do like Kylo, Rey thought, even my own senses are confirming it. Should I go talk to him? I need some advice.
And so, when class ended, she walked up to Prof. JK Rowling and decided to ask for some relationship advice.
