"SIRIUS ORION BLACK!" No matter how many times he heard his mother screaming at him, her voice hurt. It dragged and cracked in the same places, making her sound like even more of an old crone. Sighing, Sirius wondered what he had done this time, and headed downstairs into the sitting room.
"What is it, mum?" He asked, flicking his hair lightly out of his face.
"Cut your hair." She said sharply. "You look like a queer."
Normally, Sirius ignored her opening remarks about his hair. It made him look like a hippie, a punk, a girl, he was unemployed, the list went on. This was the first time she had so much as mentioned homosexuality to him, and it made Sirius' blood boil.
"What did you say?" He hissed through clenched teeth, hands tightening into fists.
"I said you look like a flaming queer. I will have none of it. Regulus doesn't keep his hair long like a poofter, and I expect you to follow his example."
Sirius was seething now. He had tried so hard to keep his temper in check these holidays, and this was the last straw.
"What if I don't have a problem with gay people?" He spoke in an undertone, and a heated silence filled the room. There was a moment before he continued.
"Matter of fact, what if I am gay? What if I have a boyfriend, who I love and care for? WHAT THEN?" His voice gained in volume, until he roared the last two words and fell silent, panting, fists clenched. Walburga Black looked extremely affronted, and then drew herself to her feet, inhaling slowly.
"Sirius Black. You will say nothing of the sort. You will break up with this...thing. You will marry a pureblood girl and continue the family name." She said slowly in measured tones, her steel grey eyes meeting angrily with Sirius' stormy ones.
"FUCK YOU!" Sirius roared, drawing himself up to his full height. "I'm going to love whoever the FUCK I want, and I'm not going to just stand here and let you call him a thing! I love him, and he loves me, and you don't fucking matter!"
"Love? LOVE? Love doesn't exist, Sirius! All that matters is blood, and continuing the family name."
"Fuck that! You just say love doesn't exist because you never got to experience it! I fucking LOVE Remus, and you can stay the fucking hell away from us!"
"Lupin? That half-breed mongrel?"
Walburga opened her mouth to say something else, but never got to finish it, because Sirius had punched her. Hard. He sprinted from the room, pushing his eavesdropping brother aside, and pulled everything he wanted to keep from his room, throwing it in his suitcase. Running back downstairs, he ignored the yells of his family, shot outside, yelled a final "FUCK YOU", and then got on his motorbike and flew away.
