Once Upon a Dream

"Come on, Al!" Edward yelled.

It was a nice, summer day in Resembool, Their hometown. The two Elric brothers were going to see their friend, Winry Rockbell. She was Ed's automail engineer.

"Hold on, Brother!" The younger brother was clanging up the hill. Al's soul was bonded to a suit of armor, because he and Ed had tried to use human transmutation on their mother, just to see her smile one more time. They had failed, but it cost them dearly. Alphonse lost his body, and Edward lost his leg. Ed lost his arm trying to bond Al's soul to the armor. They both are on a journey searching for a philosopher's stone, to get their bodies back.

When he got to the top of the hill, Ed stopped dead in his tracks. He dropped his suitcase, and fell to his knees. "Brother, are you okay?" Al said as he got to the top of the hill. Edward was gaping, and his eyes were wide open in horror. Al looked in the direction he was looking, and gasped.

Looking at the charred ashes of their house they had burned down, was their mother, Trisha. Her long chestnut hair blew in the light breeze. She looked over to them, and smiled.

"M-mom…" Al managed to choke out. Ed grasped his head and tears came out of his eyes.

"No…! No…! It's impossible! She was dead! You can't bring the dead back to life…" He looked at her again, and got up. His mother walked toward them, and they both took a step back.

"Edward, why are you crying? I know a lot has happened, but please. Don't cry." She wiped the tears away from Ed's eyes, but more just came out.

"Is it really you, mom?" Al said. He would be crying too, if he had a real body. Trisha smiled at Al.

"It is. I heard everything from Winry. I'm sorry I caused you so much grief, just don't cry. She said you hadn't cried the entire time I was gone, but don't cry now that I am here." Trisha, herself, was on the verge of tears.

Edward couldn't wrap his head around. "No.. No… No…! It's impossible! The dead can't come back to life!" He stared at his mother; his eyes looked like he was crazy. "How are you alive? You're supposed to be dead! How…" Ed finally broke apart and fell into his mother's arms. He sobbed into his mother's warm arms. She hugged him back and rubbed his head.

"It's okay now… Don't cry…" Her voice was soothing, and calm.

Edward tried to choke back the sobs. "Mom… I'm so glad… You're alive…"

Ed looked up to expect a smiling face, but instead it was the monster they had tried to transmute into their mom. His face went into shock, and then terror. And then,

He woke up.
