Cindy laid half asleep on the couch, laptop dangling dangerously over the edge, when she was startled by a knock at the door. She check her watch as she got up, 12:30, it can't be good at this hour. "Who is it?" she asked as she made her way to the door.
"It's Jill."
"Is something wrong?" Cindy asked as she hurriedly opened the door.
"No, I just needed to talk to you. Sorry about the time." Jill said as she came into the apartment.
"It's okay, what's up." Cindy assured her as she closed the door. She turned to follow Jill when she realized Jill hadn't moved. Cindy looked up at her curiously, "are you okay?"
"Yes, well I don't know. I've been doing a lot of thinking lately. You know last month when you finally told us that you were gay, that took a lot of courage." Jill was moving closer to her as she was speaking.
"I thought it was time, with everything we've been through. I thought you should know." Cindy was taking a step back for every step forward that Jill took, until she finally bumped into the wall.
"Well it started me thinking, all the late nights going over case files. All the excuses to hang out in my office, the dinners and drinks at Papa Joe's. I've just been rehashing all the looks and the comforting touches."
Jill was standing dangerously close now. "I didn't...I wouldn't...I mean, you're not..." Oh god, Cindy's head was swimming. What the hell was happening. Maybe she was still asleep on the couch. She never considered Jill, they were friends she wasn't going to ruin that, besides Jill was straight. Wasn't she?
"Let me just tell you." Jill leaned in until her lips were on Cindy's ear. "Lindsay says April Fools." she whispered. She straightened up, gave Cindy a big grin, and left.
Cindy stood against the wall for a second. That was really messed up. She finally stepped out into the hallway. "It's June you know."
